On Deck

The deck space is one of the main attractions of the Fjord 38 Open, with its easy configurability and adaptability. The backrests can be adjusted to face either forwards or backwards, and the table can be folded up or lowered to create a larger sunbathing area.

Moving on to the bathing platform, Nick notes that while it could potentially hold a tender, he suspects most people would opt to store an inflatable in the engine room instead due to the boat's compact size. There is a deck shower but an absence of raised rails, which is attributed to the boat's high bulkwarks.

The boat's on deck catering facilities are minimal but adequate for short trips. Noted are the sink and the option to have a small grill, but the main feature is the three seperate refrigeration drawers.

The fenders on this particular boat are square-shaped, which means they fit neatly into their storage racks. Also noted is the impressive stereo system, which includes eight speakers, two amps, and subwoofers. At the helm there is joystick control for low-speed maneuvering and the electronic steering, which provides a similar level of control to an IPS system.

Below there is a double cabin, a separate toilet and shower, and an additional fridge. The Fjord 38 Open is primarily a day boat, but it is possible to spend a night or even a week onboard if desired.

The boat has two Volvo Penta D4-320 engines, which are the larger option available but are chosen by most buyers. The boat's estimated top speed is around 38 to 39 knots, with a cruising speed of about 30 knots and a range of approximately 150 nautical miles.

Throughout Nick seems quite impressed with the Fjord 38 Open, particularly its adaptability and the thoughtfulness of its design.  He describes it as a perfect day boat or picnic boat, ideal for short trips and beach visits, rather than long-term voyages.
