Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 18.5m beam and a 4.4m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 4,693 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.

Construction started in early 2015 with the keel laid under the project name 'Feadship 1007'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in June 2018 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in October 2018.

Exterior Design

Ambassador, Feadship's largest yacht build at the time of her launch, showcases exterior styling dominated by the towering architectural mast envisioned by UK designer Michael Leach. The oyster-white hull is complemented by a superstructure featuring sculpted organic shapes, balconies, metallic silver/jet black elements, and expansive glass panels, all crowned by a striking funnel and architectural mast. The raked bow commands attention at the termination of a sleek and uncluttered foredeck.

Beyond the mast's prominence, the yacht maintains a gracefully low profile, defined by a sharp line connecting the bow to the aft of the main deck. An elegant interruption takes the form of an elongated oval-ish shape, artistically carved into the profile, with a rising curve from the waterline converging with the shape.

The gentle curves extend to the deck spaces, especially on the aft decks designed for socializing and relaxation. You'll find a round jacuzzi, occasional tables with rounded edges, comfortable bucket seats, and sun pads with a touch of elegance in their contours. The details highlight a subtle use of curves, even in the handrails leading to the steps. The staircases leading up from the main deck aft follow a graceful upward curve, contributing the flowing elegance to the overall design of the yacht. A private observation lounge forward of the mast provides an elevated vantage point complete with circular seating around a fire pit.

The transom area prioritizes protection from the sides, and access is facilitated through the interior, specifically via the beach club, instead of opting for an open staircase feature. The beach club has side-opening balconies providing a water-edge experience.

The Feadship is the first yacht with a designated landing pad for tilt-rotor aircraft.

Interior Design

Brian J McCarthy's debut yacht project unfolded when a seasoned owner, familiar from previous residential collaborations, brought him on board. Entering the project at a later stage, the goal was straightforward—infuse modern elements with a touch of classical warmth, turning this colossal yacht into a 'home away from home.' McCarthy's designs, employing neutral tones and pops of color through well-placed rugs, cushions, and art, perfectly achieved the desired residential feel.

The spaces are defined by simple, soft lines, keeping rooms uncluttered with just enough thoughtful detailing. Textures emerge through soft furnishings, and visual interest is drawn from designed wall panels against a cream backdrop with wood beading. Supporting columns in the main salon feature inlaid wood, providing a lift from the cream surroundings.

The oval library showcases limited edition Tato club chairs with a polished walnut base and a retro-style orange, black, and cream rug that complements the room's overall styling. Bucket chairs, occasionally textured, are scattered throughout, and orchids add a touch of elegance to tables and frames crafted with steel. Classic French influences subtly surface, featuring Jacques Ruhlman-style barrel-back bergère seating, retro low-slung tables in rich gloss-lacquered wood, and French marble.

Even with a substantial budget and the sheer magnitude of the yacht, the spaces created by McCarthy feel intimate, and homely as the brief required. There's a deliberate avoidance of ostentation, yet a subtle undercurrent of luxury gracefully permeates every corner. For his first-ever yacht project, McCarthy unmistakably shines.
