Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 10m beam and a 3m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 715 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in early 2011. Launched in February 2012 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in June 2013.
Exterior Design
The exterior design of Crazy Me features a raked bow, contributing to its sleek and modern appearance. The deck is constructed from teak, offering both durability and a classic look. The hull and superstructure are both finished in white, creating a cohesive and clean aesthetic. Accentuating this look, the boot top and the area below the waterline are colored black, providing a striking contrast.
Designed by Gary Grant, the yacht's 50-metre length features aerodynamic shapes and sculptural influences. The mast incorporates elements resembling wing sections and air foils, drawing inspiration from the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The upper deck houses a specialized pool with spa jets, an optional current for swimming, a shallow lie-down platform, and a glass panel at the aft end for privacy and decorative purposes. The pool area can be transformed into a dance floor with panels and stainless rails, supported by a professional-standard audio-visual system for entertainment.
Interior Design
Crazy Me's interior prominently features bamboo, utilized in various forms to create a cohesive and elegant environment. The main saloon and dining area, for instance, boast 2.85 meters of headroom and large, curved windows, allowing natural light to fill the space. Bamboo is used extensively, with the floor crafted from stained bamboo and a laser-cut bamboo panel above the television. The palette includes soft greys and mauves, complemented by mirrored elements that reflect the silk Tai Ping carpets.
The upper saloon is notable for its hydraulic engineering, allowing sections of the superstructure to slide outboard and aft to reveal floor-to-ceiling windows. This space features a round seating arrangement facing a large television, with the teak from the aft deck extending indoors to create a sense of continuity.
The galley on the main deck is designed for practicality, offering good access to storage areas below and equipped with large windows for natural light. The helm, situated in the wheelhouse, benefits from high bulwarks and step-accessed wing stations for improved visibility. The wheelhouse design takes inspiration from the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, featuring aerodynamic shapes and retractable navigation lights.
Throughout the yacht, advanced technology is integrated with design elements. The audio-visual systems include iPad-controlled light, temperature, TV, sound, and curtains. Speakers are subtly embedded around TVs and hidden within the walls, and every crew berth features wall TVs on fold-out stalks. The upper deck rack room, with its glass door, showcases the power behind the audio-visual systems.
Accommodation
Crazy Me offers accommodation for up to 12 guests in six suites. Each cabin features generous proportions and en suite facilities with large shower cubicles. The forward full-beam VIP suite stands out with a shower room nearly equal in size to the cabin itself, featuring a glass partition that can become opaque at the touch of a button for added privacy. The guest cabins also boast heated en suite floors, enhancing the comfort level.
The full-beam master cabin is located at the forward end of the main deck. This suite includes wide windows that allow for plenty of natural light. The master suite also features a forward dressing room that opens onto an ensuite bathroom with a central shower. The bathroom areas utilize raw marble and warm-toned kauri wood, known for its natural anti-slip properties.
Crew members are well-catered for with twin berths featuring en suite showers, a cozy mess area, and a well-equipped laundry. The crew quarters also include a walk-in freezer and fridge, ensuring ample storage and convenience for long voyages. The captain's cabin is situated on the upper deck behind the wheelhouse, providing quick access to essential navigational areas.
