The multi-award winning 177'2" open yacht El Leon was delivered to her owners in 2018 by Italian shipyard Mangusta. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of Alberto Mancini, while Mangusta is responsible for her naval architecture.
Design & Construction
Designed around a fast displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 29'7" beam and a 7'7" draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).
This was the first yacht built on the GranSport 54 design. Launched in May 2018 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months.
Exterior Design
With its arrow-slim profile, this 54-meter flagship yacht is both searingly fast and elegantly poised, reflecting the essence of a lion poised to pounce. El Leon's aesthetics, characterized by lean and muscular lines, are a result of expert engineering paired with the creative prowess of Mancini, who worked in close partnership with the shipyard to refine its silhouette. The windshield's sharp slant and the rush of fluid lines across the yacht's body contribute to its potent appearance.
El Leon's aluminum hull—developed specifically for this model—stands out as a pioneer in Mangusta's foray into the transatlantic market. The displacement yacht maintains its sleek, aggressive profile without compromising on speed or luxury, challenging the traditional expectations of long-range cruisers.
The forward deck is graced by a large splash pool—an inviting oasis that promises relaxation and luxury. This element is not only a visual focal point but also a functional masterpiece, seamlessly integrating into the yacht's profile.
Transitioning to the stern, the yacht's beach club epitomizes the outdoor living experience, with three elegantly designed sides that open to the sea, inviting the ocean breeze and panoramic views to become part of the onboard ambiance.
Interior Design
Upon entering El Leon's main saloon, one is greeted with an expansive space that feels open and airy, thanks to the strategic use of floor-to-ceiling windows and teak boards running port to starboard rather than lengthwise. This design choice not only enhances the feeling of spaciousness but also emphasizes the yacht's impressive beam, creating an inviting and comfortable environment that is perfect for socializing and relaxation.
The attention to detail within the interior is evident in the custom furniture and luxurious finishes that adorn the space. Exclusive materials such as glossy American nut and Macassar ebony are complemented by exquisite wall coverings from prestigious brands like Hermès and Rubelli. The incorporation of nubuck and other leather finishes further adds to the yacht's sumptuous ambiance.
In the dining area, two beautifully crafted oval pieces of furniture serve a dual purpose as elegant design elements and clever concealment for the air conditioning system's fan coils. The choice of decor creates a seamless blend of form and function, ensuring the utmost comfort without compromising on style.
The yacht's layout also accommodates an office and a generous tender garage, designed by Mancini, with gullwing-style doors that reveal a 7.3-meter tender.
The customization options available on El Leon are extensive, with potential buyers having the opportunity to personalize their yacht if they are involved early in the process. The technical department, led by Nicola Onori and Pier Giorgio Finatti, offers a variety of layout options, including a four-cabin arrangement on the lower deck with additional amenities such as a gym and cinema as well as different configurations for VIP and guest cabins.
Accommodation
At the heart of El Leon's guest experience is the accommodation designed to host ten passengers in grand style. The yacht boasts a total of five sumptuous guest cabins, each meticulously appointed with the finest materials and finishes, reflecting the yacht's overall commitment to elegance and comfort.
Central to El Leon's accommodation offering is the majestic owner's suite situated prominently on the main deck. This full-beam suite features a private balcony on the starboard side. The suite is a haven of light, thanks to the innovative use of the pool's glass bottom that doubles as a skylight, accentuating the suite's spaciousness and connection to the ocean. An en suite breakfast nook adds a touch of intimacy, allowing for serene morning moments with uninterrupted views.
The master head within the suite is a masterpiece of design, leveraging a tropical forest theme with heavily veneered brown marble and a glass-enclosed animal print wall covering by Hermès. It's an environment that invites relaxation and reflects the yacht's bespoke nature, tailored to the desires of its owner.
For additional guests, the lower deck offers a versatile and customizable layout, ensuring that every journey accommodates the unique needs of those on board. Options include a four-cabin arrangement that allows for additional social areas such as a gym and cinema, or an alternative layout featuring two full-beam VIP cabins, alongside two guest cabins, ensuring that each guest experiences the same level of luxury and privacy as found in the master suite.
Crew accommodation on El Leon is equally well-considered, ensuring that those who operate and maintain the vessel are provided with the comfort and space necessary to perform their duties to the highest standards. The quarters for a crew of up to nine are designed to offer both functionality and respite, a reflection of Mangusta's understanding that exceptional service is born from exceptional living conditions.
