Design & Construction

Designed around a planing aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 8.56m beam and a 1.4m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 288 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in late 2007 with the keel laid under the project name 'Flying Dagger II'. Launched in June 2009 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in July 2009.

Exterior Design

The exterior design of Flying Dagger is characterized by its sleek and modern aesthetic. The hull is painted in a deep black, providing a stark and striking look. This color scheme continues below the waterline, maintaining a consistent and bold appearance. The superstructure is finished in a contrasting silver, adding a touch of sophistication to the overall design.

The deck is crafted from high-quality teak, known for its durability and classic appeal. This material not only enhances the yacht's appearance but also ensures a comfortable and safe surface for passengers. The boot top is also black, ensuring a cohesive look throughout the vessel.

At the aft, the main deck offers a combination of seating and dining areas under the flying bridge's overhang. Sunbeds can be converted into seating or a cocktail area, providing flexible options for relaxation and socializing. The flying bridge itself offers generous outside space for guests to enjoy, while the forward coachroof includes a large sunbathing area.

The foredeck is practical, retaining enough room for deck and anchoring operations, as well as storage in the forepeak and chain locker. An air replacement system ensures that damp is kept to a minimum by effectively replacing the air in the locker and other areas every hour.

At Flying Dagger's aft, the garage carries a 4.8-meter Castoldi tender, which can be launched over the bathing platform using a 1.5-tonne beam crane. The control systems for the aft door and passerelle are concealed behind an aft deck bulwark door, machined from a single metal plate to ensure a clean design and watertight fit.

Interior Design

The interior design of Flying Dagger, conceptualized by Milan-based designer Ivana Porfiri, is an exercise in precision and thoughtful execution. The main saloon is an expansive, open space with a white deckhead, white walls, and a white-painted pine sole. The layout avoids obstructions, creating an uncluttered environment from the aft deck doors to the forward bulkhead. The use of color is sparing but effective, with furniture and art details carefully chosen to avoid a clinical feel. Key pieces include lamps from Ingo Maurer and Yamagiwa, sofas from Maxalto and Sawaya & Moroni, and pebble-shaped pouffes and footstools from Smarin Design.

The dining area forward features a custom 'crystal crackle' table, surrounded by molded foam dining chairs from FoamTek. Dominating this space is an artwork by Yves Klein, comprising silver, gold, and platinum foil leaves. This installation shimmers with vibrations, creating a dynamic mirror to the seascape outside. Blue spotlights enhance this effect, reflecting Porfiri's detailed consideration of light. Prisms in the sole cast rainbow effects onto the deckhead and guest lobby below, while fiber-optic lights in the saloon deckhead add a further element of randomness.

The galley, located on a lower mezzanine forward of the wheelhouse, is fully equipped to professional standards. Dark grays and blacks dominate, contrasted by striking recycled plastic cupboard doors that introduce vibrant color.

The wheelhouse features a fully integrated control system, managed from a central pad that sends information to five forward-set screens. The console is clean and minimal on the surface but complex internally, reflecting the precision of both design and engineering.

Accommodation

Flying Dagger offers accommodation for up to eight guests in four suites. The master cabin is located amidships and spans the full beam of the yacht, providing ample space and a serene atmosphere. It is adorned in pure white tones with vibrant color highlights and features a unique curtain of varnished white steel chainmail across the aft bulkhead. The master cabin includes separate his-and-hers en-suites with mother-of-pearl counters and white Corian walls.

The guest accommodation is rounded out by a large VIP cabin forward, which includes a transverse double bed and a generous en-suite. Additionally, there are two twin cabins situated to port and starboard between the master and the VIP cabin. Each of these cabins maintains the primary white theme with subtle color accents and concealed lighting that enhances the overall ambiance.

For the crew, the yacht provides accommodation in four cabins, catering for up to seven members. This includes two twin bunk en-suites forward and two additional cabins aft, one for the captain and one for the engineer and mate. The crew quarters are designed to be functional and comfortable, ensuring that the crew can operate efficiently.
