Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 11.3m beam and a 3.35m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 1,300 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in early 2000. She was delivered to her owners in November 2002.

Exterior Design

Wedge Too's curvaceously rounded lines, an unusual feature for a yacht of this size, are both visually stunning and evidence of its outstanding craftsmanship. The hull, built with a steel base and an aluminium superstructure, displays a keen attention to detail and a bold willingness to challenge conventional yacht design.

The exterior of Wedge Too is characterized by a strong interplay between form and function. At first glance, the yacht's exterior bears a striking resemblance to a style statement, but a closer inspection reveals the practicality of design underpinning its aesthetic appeal. From the high bow sections running aft to blend with the upper deck to the stern quarters displaying massive upward-opening garage doors to port and starboard, every element is purposefully designed.

One of the most distinctive features of Wedge Too is the size and spacing of its windows. On the starboard side of the main deck, the distance between the windows decreases as they run aft, creating an intriguing pattern that extends as far as possible towards the stern. This pattern is subtly mirrored on the port side, creating a unique yet harmonious exterior aesthetic.

The upper decks of Wedge Too are marked by cleanly rounded ends and a minimalist mast bearing only essential antennae and an elliptical sunshade. The deck areas, in keeping with Starck's philosophy of refined austerity, are devoid of built-in seating or furniture. Instead, they are left open, allowing for the arrangement of loose teak furniture as per the occasion.

Starck's design approach extends to the stern of Wedge Too, which features a hinge-down bathing platform of maximum size. This not only adds to the yacht's striking looks but also provides a luxurious space for guests to relax and enjoy the ocean views.

Wedge Too offers a unique and luxurious accommodation experience.

Interior Design

The lower deck houses the crew quarters and guest cabins, while the remaining three decks each feature spacious saloons, decreasing in size as one ascends. This design offers ample space for open-air entertaining, with three pantries connected to the galley by a food lift. Formal dining takes place in the dining saloon on the main deck, with three VIP staterooms opening forward from the dining room.

The upper deck is reserved for the owner's family, featuring a private saloon aft and a forward-positioned master suite, along with a cabin for family or personal staff. The only guest area on the bridge deck is the uppermost saloon, with the remainder of the deck being dedicated to the pilothouse, radio office and captain's cabin.

Unembellished anigré panelling, stained to a mellow tone, can be found throughout the yacht's interior, as can teak floors. The furniture, the majority of which was designed by the Starck design team, is a blend of styles and designs ranging from Louis XIV to modernism, with a fair sprinkling of 'plain funky'.

The master suite, located on the owner's deck, is a spectacle in itself, offering a full 180-degree panorama of windows radiating from the bed. The decoration is equally eye-catching, with the bed backed by diamond blocks of gold leaf. Adjacent are two spacious shower rooms lined in understated white Carrara marble and three beautifully fitted walk-in wardrobes.

Wedge Too can accommodate a maximum of 18 guests in nine staterooms distributed over three decks. The cabins and their en suite shower rooms are practically identical, with anigré-panelled decoration and white Carrara marble shower rooms. Starck chose to highlight the portholes with huge circles of silver, emphasizing the fact that Wedge Too is indeed a yacht.

The combination of the tender garage and bathing platform is particularly noteworthy, featuring three vast hydraulically operated doors that open from the stern of the yacht to create a sizeable, sheltered water sports deck. The engine room is a clean and well-ordered compartment, dominated by the twin 1,491kw Caterpillar 3516B diesels that provide Wedge Too with a top speed of 16.5 knots.

Wedge Too's interior is a blend of style, comfort, and functionality, reflecting Starck's unique design philosophy. Every aspect of this yacht has been carefully considered and while some items may shock the more conservative taste, they all bear the memorable stamp of a confident master designer.

Accommodation

The yacht's accommodation is spread across three decks, providing optimal space and privacy for guests. Wedge Too can comfortably accommodate up to 18 guests in nine staterooms. The staterooms are located over multiple decks, providing a range of views and layouts for guests to choose from.

The master suite, located forward on the owner's deck, is nothing short of spectacular. It offers a full 180-degree panorama of windows, with the bed as the focal point. The suite also includes two spacious shower rooms lined in understated white Carrara marble and three beautifully fitted walk-in wardrobes. Its design is both eye-catching and luxurious, featuring blocks of gold leaf backing the bed and a classical French writing desk that cleverly conceals a 130cm television.

In addition to the master suite, there are three VIP staterooms located forward of the dining saloon on the main deck. Each of these staterooms is practically identical in their anigré-panelled decoration and white Carrara marble shower rooms, offering a consistently high level of luxury for all guests.

Wedge Too also offers four further king-sized double staterooms on the lower deck. These rooms are similarly designed to the VIP staterooms, with the large, square windows on the main deck replaced by portholes on the lower deck. The portholes are highlighted by huge circles of silver, adding a unique touch to the yacht's interior design.

The yacht's crew accommodation is located forward of the engine room on the lower deck. While the crew quarters may be more compact than those found on other yachts of similar size and status, they are well-designed and comfortable. The crew also have access to a very pleasant crew mess, showcasing the high quality finish that Feadship is known for.

Performance & Capabilities

Strikingly distinct in her design, Wedge Too is a testament to the innovative genius of Philippe Starck and the exceptional craftsmanship of Feadship’s De Vries Shipyard. Her performance and mechanical capabilities ensure that she is much more than just a visual spectacle.

Wedge Too is powered by twin 1,491kw Caterpillar 3516B diesel engines. These powerhouses enable her to glide through the water at a top speed of 16.5 knots. The yacht's impressive range is made possible by her 126,150-litre fuel tanks, which allow for a comfortable transatlantic range of around 4,700 nautical miles at an economical cruising speed of 13 knots.

The computer-controlled injectors fitted to the main engines and generators ensure a smoke-free operation by matching engine load with precisely metered fuel delivery to the cylinders. This innovative system not only contributes to the yacht's environmental efficiency, but also guarantees a smooth and quiet ride, free of unnecessary vibrations.

Wedge Too is not just a yacht; it's a work of art that redefines the boundaries of yacht design.

Amenities

The yacht can house plenty of nautical toys and accessories, with a well-appointed tender garage for storing her impressive locker. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Wedge Too also features deck jacuzzi which provides excellent views.
