Azimut’s largest-ever yacht was announced by key figures in the design and build of the 38m (124.6ft) Grande Trideck, which is also the Italian yard’s first trideck superyacht.
The CEO of Azimut Benetti Group, Marco Valle, and the Product Marketing Director, Federico Lantero, joined the exterior designer of the flagship model, Alberto Mancini, to talk about the innovation and inspiration behind the 299GT motor yacht.
One of the key features of the Grande Trideck explained in more detail was the concept of the mezzanine deck, which Federico Lantero said effectively makes the model a “three decks, plus one”. The mezzanine deck is an additional raised aft deck in the stern, which creates a unique sea view terrace, giving the yacht a fourth terrace in addition to the sun deck, upper deck and beach club.
Federico Lantero went on to explain that the mezzanine deck also benefits the 30-square-meter (323 sq. ft) beach club below, allowing for 2m (6.5ft) of headroom and creating the feeling of “being on a beach in the middle of the sea”.
Alberto Mancini, who is behind the exterior design of the Grande Trideck, talked about his role in the project and the use of “horizontal architecture” to create a true megayacht feel. He also touched on the concept of the yacht being “three decks, plus one” that Federico Lantero raised. Mancini explained that in the design process he made a conscious design to focus his energies on the layout, designing “cascading terraces from the sun deck to the sea”.
Rather unusually the Grande Trideck has no formal dining area on the main deck, however Federico Lantero explained that a specific decision had been made for the yacht to have a series of multi-purpose areas, giving the Owner and its guests a flexibility of choice on how to use social spaces.
Accommodation wise the Owners can choose between a five or six-cabin layout, with what is described as an “avant-garde Owner’s suite” with its own wellness area.
Azimut also revealed it has paid plenty of attention to designing an efficient hull, with Federico Lantero revealing the Grande Trideck has the same fuel consumption as its Grande 35 Metri despite being 3m (10ft) longer. Constructed with GRP and carbon fiber the superstructure is also 30% lighter, offering six tonnes of weight saving.
In a further nod to the environment, the yacht features ‘hotel mode’ which allows it to run nearly all the mains systems for eight hours with the generators off, producing zero noise and zero emissions.
Marco Valle, CEO of the Azimut Benetti Group, said that its new flagship yacht with its unique “three decks, plus one“ is another example of Azimut pushing the boundaries. He cited the yard’s 68S and its Magellano Collection as previous pioneering designs by the yard.
He also explained that Azimut has the highest number of units sold of yachts in the 30m to 40m (98ft to 131ft) range and that the Grande Trideck will act as a flagship for this segment, as well as the yard as a whole.
First announced at the Cannes Yachting Show in 2019, there has been much anticipation in the run-up to this official unveiling of the new model. Marco Valle revealed that the first model, SHABBY, had been delivered during the Monaco Grand Prix, with a further four units already pre-sold before the model had been officially presented to the market.
Ending the official unveiling on a positive note that shows the strength of the superyacht industry at the present time and its resilience against the Coronavirus pandemic, Marco Valle concluded that the “US market is booming” and “Azimut is selling like never in the past”.
