Feadship Yacht B: Solar Powered Yacht on Sea Trials

Project 713 left Feadship's facilities earlier this month to begin sea trials. Its new name, "B," is prominently displayed on its transom.

Feadship yacht B will harness solar energy and HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil), marking a significant milestone in Feadship's roadmap to net-zero yacht building by 2030. The yacht's design, created by Sinot and Studio De Voogt, was heavily influenced by the owner, who played a major role in shaping its eco-friendly credentials.

The yacht is part of Feadship's series of successful sustainability-focused yachts for sale. The series began with HVO-powered OBSIDIAN, fuel-cell fitted Project 821, and hybrid-electric certified Project 1012.

B is the first Feadship to carry solar cells for auxiliary power generation, and these were described by the yard as the most efficient and durable on the market. Custom-made in the Netherlands, the solar panels can produce up to 24 MWh annually.

Diesel-electric energy allows both the propulsion and the hotel load to be powered by four generators and a 400 kWh battery. The yacht has an enviable YETI (Yacht Environmental Transparency Index) score in the top 35% of the fleet, and like all new Feadships, can run on non-fossil HVO.

The solar panels, crafted with the most efficient silicon cells available and custom-made in the Netherlands, significantly enhance the yacht's energy efficiency. The yacht's high-efficiency diesel-electric power system, supported by four generators and a 400 kWh battery, ensures energy is efficiently utilized for both propulsion and hotel load.
