In the Feadship narrative, few figures loom larger than the renowned Frits de Voogt. From 1960 until his retirement in 1995, he played a pivotal role in propelling Feadship to global prominence. Not only did Frits contribute significantly to the company's success, but he also crafted numerous remarkable Feadships. Recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 Showboat Design Awards, the de Voogt name cast a significant light on Feadship's esteemed reputation.
“Frits was the glue that managed the individuals, and the decisions he made, he made for the good of all.”
Henk de Vries
Despite his substantial impact on the superyacht realm over several decades, Frits de Voogt remained remarkably humble and kind. Officially retiring from his roles as Feadship director, naval architect, and yacht designer in the mid-1990s, his influence endured in the fundamental principles of Feadship and its collaboration with owners. Born in 1927, Frits continued to attend nearly every Feadship launch post-retirement.
His death at the age of 96 marked a somber moment within the superyacht world in recognition of the loss of a giant. His memory will continue to be an integral part of Feadship's history, and living on through the 150 Feadships crafted under his guidance, gracefully navigating the seas.
"Frits was a mentor of the current leaders of Feadship. We bow deeply to this cheerful, friendly, and sometimes strict giant".
Frits de Voogt, naval architect
