Significant new details of the world’s largest sportfish yacht, 52m (171ft) Project 406, have been revealed for the first time by Vripack Yacht Design and Royal Huisman.
Renderings and a flythrough video show purposeful lines sweeping dramatically aft from her distinctive long and sleek bow, across six towering decks through to the stylish downward arc of her stern profile.
Contracts were signed at the end of last year for the all-aluminum yacht that is being built for an experienced client who is a passionate fisherman. Royal Huisman is working in conjunction with Vripack on the project who are providing interior and exterior design and naval architecture.
“Project 406 is a sportfisher on steroids. It has the true proportions and long flaring bow of a typical American sportfish boat paired with the harmonious feel of a luxurious superyacht. It’s a supersized model with super chic curves, realised on a grand scale.” Vripack Co-Creative Director, Bart M. Bouwhuis said.
Royal Huisman CEO Jan Timmerman, is equally as excited about the prospect of Project 406: “The world’s first true sportfish superyacht is a very exciting order and we are delighted to be unveiling it as we prepare to launch another highly distinctive motor yacht – the 58.5m / 192ft sub 500GT Phi” he said. “It is good to know that our reputation as the home of the world’s finest sailing yachts is now expanding to embrace the world’s most distinctive motor yachts.”

Very few details are known about the project at the moment, aside from the fact she will be extensively fitted out and will be as suitable for luxurious living as high-end sportfishing. She is expected to be ready to hand over to her new owner in 2023.
Project 406 will take the title of the world’s largest sportfish yacht from 44m (144ft) ‘Bad Company’ that was built by Trinity Yachts in 1998 and originally named MARLENA.
Sportfisher and fishing boats are very much in the blood for both Royal Huisman and Vripack. Royal Huisman began its business building boats for local fishermen as far back as 1884, whilst Vripack has been designing similar vessels since its inception in 1961.
Royal Huisman is renowned for building large sailing yachts over the years but 2021 will see it deliver its largest motor yacht yet, 58.5m (192ft) PHI, which has a radically design, fast-displacement hull.
Project 406 is set to take its place at the very top end of a market that begins with smaller fishing boats from 6m (19.6ft). If you are a keen fisherman and want to make a purchase the best place to start oyur search is by browsing all sportfisher yachts for sale.
