Otam Yachts has launched the first model from its 70HT line, which takes its cues from the aeronautical world.
The 22.3m (73ft) yacht boasts a sleek design marked by large air intakes on the sides of the bow and on the hard top, and a low centre of gravity. Bespoke engineering and hull lines come courtesy of Umberto Tagliavini Marine Design, whilst BG Design are responsible for the one-off design style.
“The design is strongly inspired by the aeronautical world and luxury sports cars,” says BG Design Firm studio. “It was essential to design the new 70-footer by taking into account the proportions and lines that have always distinguished Otam yachts.”
This is most evident in a futuristic dashboard, with a design that aims to resemble the console of a jet fighter.
No two Otams are ever the same. This is the uniqueness of the Otam shipyard.

In common with its claim that “no two Otams are ever the same” there is plenty of customization available on the 70HT, something which the owner of the first 70HT took advantage of as Matteo Belardinelli, Commercial Director for OTAM, explains:
“The owner himself designed a 3-cabin custom layout and he decided not to have a tender garage in order to maximize the beach club area and to optimize the weight for higher performance” he says.
“In fact, no two Otams are ever the same. This is the uniqueness of the Otam shipyard, which chooses not to limit its customers' options but allows them to build their ideal yacht reflecting their personal needs and aesthetic taste.”
Another feature specific to the first hull is an up and down electric glass screen that separates the interior lounge and exterior cockpit. Power comes from twin 2000-hp MTU engines, although a more powerful version is available with 2400hp and a top speed in excess of 53 knots.
The first Otam 70HT is set to make its world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.
Otam Yachts was established in 1954 and is based in Liguria, Italy. It prides itself on delivering over 100 hulls, of which no one OTAM unit is “even similar to another”, claiming customization is “Otam’s natural element” and its custom range includes yachts up to 40m (130ft).
In 2020 it delivered its fastest yacht, the Otam 65 HT, which has a top speed of 60 knots and a cruising speed of 50 knots, and earlier this year announced its largest yacht, the 35m (115ft) Custom Range 115.
