VANGUARD, Naval Yachts XPM78 Delivered

Certified for 80° north, VANGUARD is ready for an Arctic ice shelf adventure.

Naval Yachts has delivered the 23.8m XPM78 motor yacht VANGUARD to her experienced American owners following successful sea trials and hybrid drive commissioning.

Launched in November 2023, VANGUARD features a vibrant orange hull, designed for intense pressures and optimal safety.

VANGUARD, similar in design to her predecessor MÖBIUS, features exterior styling by Artnautica Yacht Design and interiors by Naval Yachts. The explorer yacht boasts a remarkable 7,000-mile range on a single fueling and is certified for operation up to 80 degrees north latitude during the summer months, enabling exploration of the Arctic ice shelf.

Constructed entirely from aluminum, VANGUARD is equipped with commercial-grade equipment similar to that found on frigates, oil rig supply vessels, USCG Cutters, and deep-sea fishing boats. Designed for short-handed operation, she can be navigated by a crew of two experienced sailors. Critical systems are duplicated for redundancy, allowing the yacht to run on both engines or a single engine with the trailing system feathered to minimize drag.

VANGUARD can host up to six guests in a three-stateroom layout, featuring an owner's cabin, one VIP cabin, and one guest cabin.

The explorer yacht features twin John Deere 160HP diesel engines for superior performance. The parallel hybrid propulsion system, with dual 50kw e-motors and 120 kWh lithium batteries, is managed by an electro-mechanical clutch, boosting efficiency and offering a greener option. The 36sq/m solar panel array generates 38 kW/day under optimal conditions, enough to power onboard systems and recharge the lithium batteries.

The XPM78 is fuel efficient, burning just 2 l/nm. This minimizes environmental impact and allows for extended journeys without frequent refueling. With a transatlantic range of over 7,000nm at a cruise speed of 10.5kn, adventurers can embark on long voyages without concerns about fuel limitations.
