Review Video
The Riviera design group, in partnership with superyacht designer Luca Vallebona (known for motor yacht SERENITY), has introduced the impressive 6800 model. This yacht, which follows their previous collaboration on the 78 Motor Yacht, takes the flagship title from the 6000. Riveria pitches this boat as one with timeless styling, single-level living, reliable blue-water performance and easy operation.

Riviera has taken their time designing the 6800 and the build quality stands out, with superior-strength lamination, a watertight collision bulkhead forward, and independent compartments throughout the hull. The outer lamination layer uses vinylester resin to resist any water absorption, finished with an isophthalic gelcoat exterior for a durable finish. Below the waterline, solid GRP reinforces the hull's bottom, keel, and chines. Structural core material fortifies the hull flanks, main deck, and hardtop. When moving around this yacht, the flooring just feels super-solid. It feels more like walking about a house than a boat - no flexing, no squeaking.
For owner-operators, technical spaces must be accessible, and Riviera has nailed this aspect. Well-designed hatches in the floor on gas rams allows easy access to the bilge. One of the grey water tanks is right there, and everything is within reach and spotlessly clean. There's no need to lift off lids, roll back carpets, or find a place to stow them. These thoughtful touches are found throughout the yacht.

Owners will find a few different custom options, including the choice of three or four staterooms, a crew cabin or laundry, and features such as Starlink high-speed internet and Praxis solar charging systems. In the three-stateroom layout, the starboard guest cabin becomes a cosy lower lounge area, which still can be used as a double berth. This yacht boasts a layout featuring four cabins: the owner's cabin amidships, the VIP forward, and guest cabins on either side. A small crew cabin is tucked away as well.
As an Australian-designed boat, shade is also a priority so there is plenty of opportunity to get away from it onboard the 6800; the cockpit sunshade serves well but Strataglass covers can be deployed for full enclosure as well. The cockpit and helm have sunroofs and there's also a foredeck bimini cover.

The clever connection between the aft galley and the cockpit is a standout feature. That turbo-charged window opens in seconds, so you can stick your head out of the window and chat with the cockpit, and serve drinks and food to the table. Naturally, you'll find yourself gravitating to this corner.
The galley itself is generously sized, allowing you to wedge yourself in comfortably when underway. Storage is split cleverly across the space. The cooker is on one side and the fridge opposite, with more cooling space at eye-level and four more cooling drawers beneath, with little clips to stop doors/drawers flying open. The woodwork is gorgeous - Riviera takes pride in its craftsmanship, and the gloss walnut, with its precise grain matching, is a popular choice. Light countertops and panelling keep things contemporary and bounce off the darker walnut, while the overall feel is solid and well-equipped. The cooking area is practical with an induction hob, a dishwasher, and storage voids for pans and larger kitchen kit. This yacht is built for living on board.

Amidships, the living area has a hidden table behind the sofa, converting into a proper dining setup. It folds away, allowing you to lounge with your feet up and enjoy the 65-inch TV. If you prefer to enjoy the view through the large window, the TV disappears behind the sofa.

Owner's Cabin
What a cabin this is for the owner. It's easily one of the most spacious and well-designed in this sector, particularly for a 70ft sports cruiser. Starting right behind the door, there's a massive hanging locker - the door for it folds away when opened, so it doesn't hinder movement.
There's a nice little nook, perfectly suited for a coffee machine, complete with a fiddled area, a plug, and a fridge underneath for cold milk in the morning. Further in, a good sized bureau gives even more storage, with space for jewellery and a mirror. Opening portholes sit within huge hull windows, complete with a cable linked to the boat's central control system. This will alert you if portholes are open before setting sail.
The ensuite might just steal the show. Storage continues here, with hanging lockers and drawers, ideal for longer cruises. The bathroom’s footprint is massive, accommodating twin sinks and more storage underneath. The toilet, separated by smoked glass, just adds to how open it feels, and the shower cubicle is spacious enough for a rain shower head.
Below the big television, opposite the king-size bed, you’ll find more storage. The bed itself is lovely and sizeable, flanked by controls for lights. The switches are stylish but lack any clear labels. Bedside tables feature fiddled edges to keep items secure, sockets for device charging, and reading lights overhead.

VIP Cabin
Step into the VIP cabin, the pick of the guest quarters. This space is very nice, with a broad, tall bed with steps to help you in. Each side of the bed has thoughtfully designed tables with fiddles and sockets.
For storage, there are eye-level lockers and more fiddles to keep everything in place. These yachts are all about practicality and making sure you and your belongings are cared for. A big storage locker sits to one side, matched by a counterpart on the opposite side, and a pair of drawers are under the bed. You'll find a television and sound bar mounted on the bulkhead as well.
The bathroom is completely private and extends deep into the yacht. It has a very big shower cubicle, a well-placed sink unit, natural light, heated towel rail and an opening port to vent the steam out. The finishes here are lovely, though not quite on par with the owner's cabin.

The port side guest cabin is configured as a twin, but the beds can slide on runners to form a double at the press of a button. It's a clever design, featuring a bedside table in the middle and another on the side. Storage isn't forgotten, with a hanging locker - but perhaps a bit shallow - and overhead compartments. There's a TV and sound bar, and the climate control keep things comfortable with air conditioning in each cabin. The ensuite is also the day head, and has a spacious shower cubicle and decent headroom. Although not completely private, it’s convenient to access via the cabin door.

The starboard side bunk cabin is best for kids, good for a big family boat. The alternative layout will mean this becomes a lower dinette, although removing the sliding door to create seating space seems a bit redundant given there's loads of seating elsewhere. The bunk beds, arranged across each other, avoid the issue of one occupant peering underneath another. Storage solutions include a decent locker and a bedside table, maintaining the quality of finish seen throughout the yacht.

Crew Space
Many owners will probably opt to repurpose this area as a utility room for storing dive equipment or fishing gear. By removing the bed, you get a countertop, making the room into a practical workspace or just the laundry - either way the washer/dryer is located in here. If you choose to keep the bed, it can accommodate kids or grandkids as it's quite conveniently located close to the owner's cabin.
As a crew space, it comes well-equipped with a sink, fridge, microwave, and a separate wet room. I’ve seen larger boats with far less impressive crew quarters. There's also a direct connection from this space to the engine room, quite rare on a yacht of this size.

On this model, the helm station is part of Riviera's design concept of everyone being on a single level, even while cruising. Propelled by Volvo Penta IPS 1350s, this yacht sweeps along at up to 30 knots but maintains a connection between those at the helm and passengers in the saloon. One person can sit as navigator on one of the luxurious, fully adjustable helm chairs, while the L-shaped seating area nearby offers a good spot when the boat's stationary or in motion. Passengers can face forward, aligning with the helm and also stay in touch with the skipper.

Electric windows on either side, along with a large, opening glass sunroof equipped with shades, provide natural ventilation so you might not need the air conditioning unless it's exceptionally warm. The helm station proves to be a comfortable spot - perfect for eating up miles, especially at 8 knots, which can get you an impressive range of 1,350nm (350nm at faster cruising speeds).
Visibility is excellent over the bow and across the screens. Despite the dash looking to be set low, everything is within reach. Riviera has aligned all major controls beneath your arm, so the skipper is never far from the essentials. With a joystick and cameras at your disposal, berthing from here is straightforward, helped by the windows and side door. The dash uses materials like low glare leather, carbon fibre, and a wooden footrest. Solid and personal, it's a helm station for a category A boat.

Designed specifically for this model, the bathing platform has a stepped feature that allows a lovely, shallow walkway into the sea. Slots on either end provide the option to put in railings for added security on both sides. This platform also raises to the quayside, proving itself a flexible arrangement. You might opt for a box passerelle in place of the traditional arrangement if you fancy.
Unlike the Riviera sports motor yacht or enclosed flybridge, this model doesn't require lifting the tender. Instead, it has a tender garage big enough for a 3.7 metre (12.1ft) tender. You'll find an air compressor handy for inflating and deflating both the tender and your water toys right down by the waterline.
Nice touches include an overhead shower, which pops out when the door opens, offering a proper rinse. There's also a tucked-away deck shower. Plus, access down into the crew space and engine room is integrated into the deck/transom.

The cockpit has equal access from both sides of the transom, where shore power connections are installed beneath the staircases, keeping everything out of sight and tidy. Once in the cockpit, the first thing that stands out is the ease of accessing the mooring gear and the big fairleads - open sides provide a nice, clear view over the water when seated, as well. Joystick controls and boarding gates are on either side so whichever side you're on you have a good view and access when docking regardless of berth location.

This cockpit truly sets this model apart from the Riviera sports motor yacht, with its focus on relaxation rather than fishing or water sports. It's incredibly flexible, almost fully enclosed with Strataglass covers if required, with heating and cooling options, and a sunroof overhead alongside a sunshade for both shade and privacy. While the profile may seem a bit clunky, the adaptability it offers based on weather conditions is worth it.
There's a great wet bar too, complete with a hot plate, grill, and extraction system, addressing any concerns about barbecuing under cover. The sunroof helps in ventilating the space, and features include an ice maker and a top-loading fridge, so you're never short on cooling space. The cockpit table, made from varnished teak and featuring a stainless steel inset, looks very high quality. It opens up as well, providing flexibility in seating arrangements with fixed seating sheltered from the breeze by the combing, alongside movable chairs for dining, and a comfortable bench aft. It all connects really well to the main saloon.

Side Decks & Foredeck
There is a side door but it's positioned just behind the helm station. While this doesn't allow a swift exit from the helm to the side deck, we're still glad it's there.
Utility comes first on the 6800's foredeck, with enormous storage bins on either side, ideal for stowing away kit, covers, and the like. The whole area benefits from a single large cover for shade and to protect everything when you're away or when the heavens open. Unlike a Sport Motor Yacht, there's no need to worry about tender storage on this deck; the tender garage takes care of that, leaving this space entirely dedicated to relaxing. No crane or chocks to clutter up the area.
The layout is divided into two separate areas, each with its own removable table. These tables, primarily fibreglass with wood-edged detailing, feature cup holders and should be a doddle to maintain. Whether enjoying a drink or simply soaking up the atmosphere, The middle walkway gives direct access right to the anchor, making movement uncomplicated - it's just a very sociable spot
The sunbathers are on two-way backrests. They ratchet into various positions, allowing you to face in different directions. When facing forward, the locker lid doubles as a backrest, adjustable to several angles. Close it up when storage is needed, and it all gets tucked away.

Access from both ends of the engine room on a boat like this is pretty much unheard of. Internally, you have the steps down on the port side, providing a nice, easy entry, while the transom door at the back allows access from the rear. The engine room has great headroom and ease of movement, with engines centred in the middle and walkways around the edges. Even though the tender garage causes a drop in height, you can still reach all components around the outside.
Wherever the shore power tower is located on the dock, you can pull the cable from the either side without any hassle using the auto reel tubs in here. Twin generators are on board, with a bigger one on one side and a smaller one on the other. Additionally, there are six 250 amp-hour lithium batteries for overnight running of all systems without the generator. Humphree's electric fin stabilisers are also running, keeping the boat steady whether stationary or in motion.
The attention to detail in this space is absolutely lovely. The railings for the bathing platform, mentioned at the start of the tour, slot in neatly and have a dedicated stowage area to prevent scratches. Rod holders are cleverly integrated, and the quality of components is clear in features like the four Racor fuel filters - two per engine. Clear bowls allow for easy inspection of fuel quality, ensuring there's no grime or sediment. If a filter gets blocked, you can quickly switch across and carry on moving. Arctic Steel Wall water strainers are nice and isolated, making them easy to inspect and maintain. A fresh water hose on a coil is ready for bilge cleaning as well.
I haven't come across many boats of this size that are as straightforward to look after and run. It's genuinely impressive.

The boat we saw on show at the 2024 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show came in at $4,800,000 ex VAT. Still, it's worth bearing in mind that Riviera is very generous with its standard specifications and the quality of its components and equipment is excellent.
This attitude to specification and the fact that Rivs tend to hold their price rather well suggest that the 6800 Sport Yacht represents decent value for money.
Our Verdict
The 6800 Sport Yacht for Riviera has been the sum total of 44 years of boat building and the construction of over 6,000 boats. You can really feel the dedication and knowledge infused into every inch. It's a boat made by people who understand boating inside out. It's a big boat at nearly 21.3m (70ft), but its layout and IPS technology make it very manageable for an owner-operator. The single-level main deck, combined with features like the joystick and DPS-assisted docking, means that even a big family boat like this can be handled solo.
Riviera’s confidence in their product is really shown with the warranties they offer - a two-year express limited warranty, a five-year warranty on the Volvo components, and a seven-year structure warranty. Such assurances are not always seen in the industry and it speak volumes about the trust Riviera places in their boats.
