Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 13.2m beam and a 11.7m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 887 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Launched in May 2016 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in September 2016.

Exterior Design

Badis I's near-vertical bow and low-profile superstructure are key elements of its visual identity, marking a departure from traditional designs and contributing to its distinct appearance.

Innovative modifications, such as the repositioning of the mizzen mast 3.3 meters (10' 10") aft, have been implemented to enhance the yacht's sailing capabilities. This adjustment not only improves the airflow over the mizzen sail, augmenting the vessel's driving force, but also incorporates a mizzen staysail that, under certain wind conditions, can contribute an additional 0.6 knots of speed.

The sailplan of Badis I is characterized by its powerful profile, employing North Sails’ 3Di technology, and is supported by two carbon fiber masts towering 71.59 meters (235 ft) and 60.96 meters (200 ft) above the waterline. These masts are provided by Rondal, with Carbolink composite stays and Kevlar running rigging. The deployment of sails is managed by Perini's advanced electric winches and software, allowing for full control from the cockpit consoles.

On deck, the yacht maintains the heritage of a recessed cockpit aft of the saloon, which serves as a central outdoor living and dining area. The design of the deck space is enhanced by the inclusion of terraced steps leading to the cockpit, emphasizing the spaciousness afforded by the yacht's substantial length.

Stylish when at-anchor and exciting whilst underway, sailing yacht Badis I offers her guests a wholly unique experience

Interior Design

The choice of materials throughout Badis I is a deliberate reflection of modern tastes and a desire for innovation. Titanium features prominently, evident in large squares on the ceilings and bead-blasted for a subtle finish. This material is not only chosen for its aesthetic appeal against the natural American ash millwork but also for its fireproof and anti-corrosion properties. Despite the challenges it presents in welding and finishing, the use of titanium throughout the vessel underscores a commitment to quality and durability.

The American ash wood used in the millwork and furniture adds warmth to the interior and contrasts effectively with the metal elements. The wood's light color and grain contribute to the yacht's contemporary feel, while also offering a tactile natural element.

Badis I is equipped with state-of-the-art lighting, carefully planned from the initial design stages. The lighting scheme includes major fixtures such as chandeliers and sconces designed by Lindsey Adelman, alongside architectural recessed lights that contribute to the perception of increased space. This lighting not only enhances the ambiance but also serves to highlight the onboard art collection.

The saloon of Badis I is free from structural impediments that could obstruct views. The open-plan layout maximizes the sense of openness and ensures that guests can enjoy unimpeded vistas. The space is furnished with bureaus that evoke the design of steampunk-inspired steamer trunks, clad in alligator hide and secured with titanium straps. The storage solutions within these bureaus are both practical and visually striking.

The saloon's dining area is anchored by a significant art piece and a custom-designed table, creating a focal point for social gatherings. The choice of wool and silk carpets from SHIIR of Chicago adds a layer of understated luxury underfoot, with their soft grey and bronze patterns contributing to the room's cohesive design.

Attention to detail is evident in the interior design elements, such as the teak batons with titanium turnbuckles that serve as handrails, adding a nautical touch that nods to the vessel's sailing heritage.

Accommodation

The interior layout of the Sybaris includes six guest cabins, each designed to provide a serene and inviting atmosphere for up to twelve guests.

At the heart of the guest accommodations is the owner’s suite, a masterful space that spans the full 13-meter beam of the yacht. This expansive suite is a private retreat, featuring an office area to starboard and an offset king-sized bed to port. The suite is further distinguished by an art feature of wood relief and contemporary artworks, which add a personal touch to the space. The suite is also complemented by a full-beam his and hers bathroom, where the use of ash, stone, and titanium creates a tranquil environment.

The remaining guest cabins are equally well-appointed, each offering comfort and privacy. These staterooms are accessed through unique titanium-clad submarine doors, a signature design element that adds to the yacht's distinctive character.

Badis I is also capable of carrying up to 11 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
