Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement ice class steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 9.5m beam and a 3.7m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 706 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Launched in May 2020 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in July 2020.

Exterior Design

Blue II's exterior design is a deliberate nod to historical sailing yachts, integrating classic steamship features with modern function. Crafted by Hoek Design, the yacht's profile is characterized by horizontal lines and graceful curves, an homage to the elegance of a bygone era of seafaring. Despite these traditional aesthetics, the yacht is built to endure, capable of navigating both the calm waters of the Mediterranean and the challenging conditions of Polar regions.

The hull of Blue II, with an Ice Class rating and a canoe stern, is designed for optimal sea-keeping. Its diesel-electric propulsion system adheres to IMO Tier III standards, enhancing fuel efficiency and minimizing environmental impact. The exterior spaces of Blue II are generous, with open decks spanning four levels, providing ample room for social activities and relaxation, all without the clutter of tenders and toys on deck.

The yacht's tender and storage solutions are thoughtfully engineered. A custom six-tonne capacity crane, designed by Nautical Structures, facilitates the deployment of a nearly 10-meter limo tender and additional crafts through hatches in the aft main deck. These technical solutions ensure that the yacht's sleek lines remain uninterrupted by on-deck equipment storage.

A key feature of Blue II is the large amount of fixed seating areas, requested by the owners to maintain the classic aesthetic of the yacht. This limits the amount of loose furniture, which could detract from the intended design period. The color scheme of the exterior, predominantly teak with blue and white accents, echoes the marine environment and contributes to the overall visual harmony of the yacht.

Blue II strikes a balance between the stylistic cues of traditional maritime design and the requirements of a modern exploration yacht.

Interior Design

The interior palette is defined by high-gloss finished teak, crisp white paint, and soft beige upholstered panels, creating a timeless and classic atmosphere that resonates with a sense of calm and order.

The main saloon is a study in carefully considered spaces, with a dining area to port and a sitting area to starboard. These communal areas are demarcated by a full-height bookcase, which not only serves as a visual anchor but also houses a television that can rotate 360 degrees, offering flexible viewing options. The use of wide-plank oak flooring coupled with durable faux sisal rugs adds a tactile warmth to the space, inviting guests to linger and relax.

Attention to detail can be seen in the ingenious use of space-saving features, such as cantilevered desks in cabins and a cleverly designed upper deck lobby that maximizes the sense of openness without sacrificing floor space. The incorporation of double doors to the baths in VIP and larger guest cabins enhances the perception of spaciousness and luxury within a confined space.

The designers at Vickers Studio and Dols & Co Interiors have worked in concert to select a range of boldly patterned accent fabrics that punctuate the interior with subtle visual interest without overwhelming the senses. The built-in furniture and joinery, crafted by Ulutaş, further exemplify the yacht's dedication to quality and craftsmanship.

A walk-up bar and coffee station in the saloon reflect the owners' preference for self-sufficiency and relaxed living. This thoughtful amenity allows guests the freedom to serve themselves in a casual and hospitable environment.

Accommodation

Blue II comfortably houses up to 12 guests within its elegant confines. The guest spaces are meticulously arranged across six staterooms, ensuring privacy and a serene environment for each individual aboard.

The yacht showcases two principal suites, each designed for the co-owners, who have shared a business partnership spanning three decades. The first owner's suite is strategically positioned on the main deck, offering direct proximity to wellness amenities. This full-beam stateroom boasts a plush setting, exuding a tranquil ambiance that extends into the adjacent sauna, hammam, and gym/massage room.

The second owner's suite is located on the upper deck, delivering an expansive 180-degree vista across the raised bow. The suite is accentuated by an array of skylights and an outdoor seating area, enhancing the connection to the maritime surroundings. Guests residing in this suite will enjoy the added luxury of a private office space, accessible via a discreet circular staircase behind the bridge.

Additional guest cabins are designed with equal attention to detail and comfort. Each cabin includes cantilevered desks and double doors leading to the en-suite bathrooms, creating a sense of spaciousness. The thoughtful interior design extends to the crew quarters, ensuring those who operate Blue II are accommodated with the same level of comfort and consideration.

The crew's living spaces for up to 11 are thoughtfully designed to ensure efficiency and comfort for those who maintain the vessel's high standards. A hidden passage provides discreet access from the guest lobby to the crew areas, allowing for seamless service without intruding on guest privacy. The captain's cabin is positioned on the lower deck, and additional crew accommodations are arranged to provide a comfortable living environment that supports the yacht's operations effectively.
