Delivered in 2012, Diamonds Are Forever is an award winning 61m motor yacht built by Italian shipyard Benetti. Her interior design comes from the drawing boards of Evan K Marshall, while Benetti is responsible for her exterior design.
Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 10.6m beam and a 2.9m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 1,060 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.
Construction started in late 2007. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in November 2011 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months.
Exterior Design
The exterior design of Diamonds Are Forever is characterized by its sleek, volume-concealing profile, accented with shard-shaped windows that add a modern touch. The yacht spans five decks, providing ample space without appearing bulky. The design achieves a balance between aesthetics and functionality, ensuring that the yacht is both visually appealing and practical for extended cruising.
The hull of Diamonds Are Forever is built on a reliable architecture, initially admired by the owner in a previous Benetti project. A foot was shaved off the keel to allow for a shallower draft, enabling the yacht to navigate the islands of the Bahamas with ease. To compensate for this modification, the stabilizers were upgraded, and two long fins were installed higher up the hull, enhancing the yacht's stability.
The exterior spaces are designed with both leisure and utility in mind. The sundeck offers a straightforward and private area for relaxation. It features sun loungers and a large sofa, providing a comfortable space to enjoy the forward view. The bridge deck includes a raised dining area, a spa pool, a marble-topped wet bar, and a large television, creating a versatile entertainment zone.
The upper saloon and aft deck are designed to maximize space and light. Air trunks were moved outside to avoid blocking windows, resulting in a brighter and more spacious interior. The aft deck includes an alfresco dining area, which can be completely enclosed by curved glass doors, providing flexibility for various dining preferences.
Interior Design
The main materials onboard Diamonds Are Forever include glossy woods, art deco accents, mirrors, and diamante crystals. These elements work together to create a visually striking environment that aligns with the yacht's name.
The main deck foyer is a focal point, featuring an onyx floor with a hand-beaten glass inlay by Marieux, accompanied by large paintings mounted in chrome frames. Sculptures by French artist and designer Erte are also displayed. The foyer leads into the main saloon, which is furnished with cream armchairs by Marieux adorned with apple-sized crystals. Faux marble pillars separate the seating area from the dining space, where a custom-designed dining table is complemented by a deco chandelier from Sans Souci of the Czech Republic.
The upper saloon on the deck above is designed to feel more relaxed and bright. White furniture is used to enhance the sense of space and light. The saloon features a pure marble bar top crafted by Guido Mellenchini & Son and a variety of crystal-studded furnishings. A circular dining area can be closed off with curved glass doors or opened to the aft deck for alfresco dining.
The central main deck also houses a gym, sauna, and beauty salon with a massage bed, adding to the yacht's amenities. The decor in these spaces is consistent with the overall design theme, ensuring a cohesive look throughout.
Throughout the yacht, art and design are integral to the overall aesthetic rather than being afterthoughts. This approach ensures that every element, from the large commissioned paintings to the fixed side tables, contributes to the overarching design scheme.
Accommodation
Diamonds Are Forever offers luxurious accommodation tailored for an exceptional charter experience. Designed with both comfort and aesthetics in mind, the yacht can accommodate up to 12 guests across six well-appointed cabins.
The master suite is located on the upper deck and is slightly larger than the VIP suite below. A forward-facing bed is raised on a platform to maximize the 180-degree views from the expansive windows. The en suite bathroom features twin showers and a grand central bath crafted from honey-colored marble, complemented by Lalique lamps. A corridor of mirrored wardrobes etched by Marieux is situated aft, along with a study conveniently placed near the entrance.
Situated on the main deck, the full-beam, split-level VIP suite is designed to match the grandeur of the master suite. The upper level features a 180-degree view, a cream chaise longue, a tufted bed base, and paneling, along with bud wood cabinets. A gold design on the bedspread accented with crystals adds to the luxurious feel. The lower level includes his-and-hers dressing rooms and a large marble bathroom, with an additional small night head adjacent to the bedroom for convenience.
The lower deck houses four guest cabins, each detailed with madrofia burl woods, gold and silver leaf, embossed leather headboards, and marble en suites. Originally planned with queen-sized beds for three cabins and twin beds for the fourth, the design was modified to include king-sized beds to cater to the US market. This adjustment was achieved by utilizing all available space without increasing the yacht's gross tonnage.
Two generous crew cabins are located on the lower level, along with a walk-in refrigerator, freezer, and a good-sized laundry room. The lower deck also includes a crew mess and five additional crew cabins, accommodating up to 16 crew onboard.
Performance & Capabilities
Diamonds are Forever's propulsion system are twin Caterpillar 3512 HD engines, givingan impressive cruising speed of 15 knots and can push the yacht to a maximum speed of 16 knots.
The generators onboard have been significantly upgraded, to the extent that the emergency unit can power the entire yacht, excluding the zero-speed stabilizers, during normal operations. This level of redundancy enhances onboard safety and ensures an uninterrupted luxury experience.
The stabilizers installed on Diamonds Are Forever have been upgraded to accommodate the yacht's shallow draft, making her well-suited for cruising in the islands of the Bahamas. The addition of two long fins higher up the hull, based on expert advice, further enhances her stability, contributing to a comfortable and stable ride even in less calm waters.
The Schottel stern thruster, powered by its own 400 hp Yanmar diesel, allows the yacht to maneuver efficiently without needing to start the main engines. This feature is particularly beneficial for docking and other precise movements in tight spaces.
Modifications such as aft-facing air-conditioning drains ensure that water is effectively managed as the yacht moves, while air runs through waffle grates with large holes to maintain low pressure and quiet operation. The refrigerated Atlas electrical system prevents overheating in tropical climates, ensuring the reliability of the yacht's electrical supply.
Amenities
The yacht features a well-equipped gym, allowing her guests to keep up their fitness regimes at sea. The yacht can house plenty of nautical toys and accessories, with a well-appointed tender garage for storing her impressive locker. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort and an elevator makes the yacht fully-accessible. Diamonds Are Forever also features deck jacuzzi which provides excellent views.
