Design & Construction
Designed around a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 10.27m beam and a 8.39m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 422 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in early 2001. Launched in January 2003 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in March 2003.
Exterior Design
The exterior design of Is A Rose features a classic raked bow that enhances its performance and presence on the water. The deck is crafted from durable teak, providing a sturdy and practical surface for both relaxation and navigation. The hull is painted in a striking dark blue color, offering a sleek and sophisticated appearance. Complementing the hull, the superstructure is finished in white, creating a sharp contrast that is aesthetically pleasing. The boot top is highlighted in red, adding a touch of distinctiveness, while the area below the waterline is painted black, ensuring both functionality and a cohesive look.
The guest cockpit, level with the main saloon, offers sitting and dining areas sheltered from the elements. The sun deck above provides excellent views, sunbathing mattresses, a sitting area, and a small dining table suitable for breakfast or brunch.
The foredeck is kept clear of obstructions, which may surprise guests given that it conceals the yacht’s two 5.1-metre Castoldi RIB tenders. At the push of a button, large doors open to launch the tenders using a derrick stored against the mast. Access to the tenders is via the bathing platform and dock that opens from the port quarter. This is made accessible by stairs that hinge upwards to reveal a second flight leading to the lazarette, where another section of the hull forms a teak-laid platform when hinged down.
Interior Design
The interior design of Is a Rose reflects a focus on quality and spaciousness. The main saloon sets the decorative tone with raised and fielded cherrywood paneling, cherrywood flooring, and a cream deckhead. Furnishings include two settees, four easy chairs, low tables, and matching side tables. Natural light floods the room through three large windows on either side. A panel of bevel-cut mirrors is set between the bookcases on the aft bulkhead. The forward part of the saloon features a double flight of stairs beneath a wall-mounted plasma television screen.
Forward on the port side of the saloon, a door opens to a games room, conservatively furnished with a settee and games table. On the starboard side, another door leads to the dining saloon. Here, a round table, topped with burr walnut and edged with bands of ash and cherrywood, seats up to 10 guests. The upper paneling in this room is replaced by silk fabric, creating a softer effect. The room also features beautifully fitted cabinets displaying hand-engraved glassware, and an abstract still life by Picasso hangs prominently.
The galley, located on the lower deck, is a granite-topped workspace equipped with professional cooking gear. It is well laid out, providing distinct working spaces for the chef and the stewardesses. One wall is lined with a bank of eight fridge/freezers, while the main storage area is found one deck below. This lower deck includes a large dry store, a 'stoop-in' refrigerator, and a similarly sized freezer room. A spacious laundry with twin washers and dryers, steam and roller irons is also located on this level.
Is a Rose's pilothouse is characterized by teak paneling and black leather furnishings, including a settee, pilot chair, and fascia. The layout and instrumentation are designed to mirror the simplicity and clarity of an aircraft cockpit, as per the owner's specifications. All information is displayed on six screens, showing outputs from the radar, plotter, monitoring system, and CCTV cameras. These displays are also accessible on any television throughout the yacht, though they cannot select alternative information from the system.
Accommodation
Is A Rose is designed to provide accommodation for up to eight guests across four cabins. The full-beam owner’s suite, located furthest aft, is a highlight of the yacht. This area includes a bedroom, a private lounge, and two walk-in wardrobes. The suite also features an en-suite bathroom and a separate shower room. For added flexibility, the owner’s suite can be divided into two separate cabins, each with its own bathroom and walk-in wardrobe. This is achieved by closing sliding doors between the wardrobes and the lounge and bedroom, ensuring privacy and soundproofing through the use of independent pairs of doors with a five-centimeter air gap between them.
Is A Rose also features one double cabin and two twin cabins. The double cabin offers a comfortable double bed and ample storage space. One of the twin cabins is equipped with an additional Pullman bunk, which can be lowered from the ceiling using mini captive reel winches, optimizing the available space.
Is A Rose is managed by a professional crew of eight, with accommodation for up to nine crew members in four cabins. These include a captain’s double cabin, a three-berth cabin, and two twin-berth cabins. The crew quarters are designed to offer a pleasant living environment, with a crew lounge, a mess, and modern amenities. The adjacent galley is well-equipped with professional cooking appliances and ample storage, ensuring efficient meal preparation and service.
