Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement composite hull and superstructure she features a 8.8m beam and a 2.1m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in mid 2012 with the keel laid under the project name 'North Star'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in June 2014 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months.
Exterior Design
Onika, built by Delta Marine, presents a classical tri-deck profile that emphasizes functionality and straightforward elegance. The exterior design showcases walkaround, sheltered decks, capped by an uppermost deck equipped with a hardtop. This feature not only offers sun protection but also houses the electronics mast, which is designed with practicality in mind, incorporating a hinge mechanism that allows it to fold over. This thoughtful design detail ensures the yacht can easily fit within its home boathouse, highlighting Delta Marine's attention to the vessel's operational requirements and the owner's convenience.
The bow of Onika is characterized by its long overhang and pronounced flare, a design choice that effectively keeps the decks dry while maintaining the yacht’s classic aesthetic. The carbon fiber mast's ability to fold, the sheltered decks, and the inclusion of a hardtop on the uppermost deck are all indicative of a design philosophy that values both form and function. The yacht's classic lines and functional design elements ensure it is well-suited to both leisurely cruises and more adventurous voyages.
Interior Design
The main deck features Botticino marble floors which complement the Khaya mahogany paneling, presenting a cohesive and polished appearance. The use of antique pieces from the owners' personal collection in the saloon and dining area creates an Edwardian-period ambiance, further enriched by a significant collection of Impressionist art.
In the helm, the design continues the theme of classical elegance combined with modern functionality. Cabinets finished in burled wood add a touch of sophistication, while the presence of two captain's chairs, a classic ship's wheel, and modern Multi-Function Display (MFD) displays and instruments reflect the blend of tradition and technology that characterizes the entire vessel. A side door provides convenient deck access.
The galley is airy and spacious, finished in cream shaker-style cabinets with stainless steel appliances. This design choice ensures that the galley is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical and easy to maintain. The emphasis on space and light makes the galley an enjoyable area for meal preparation.
A standout feature of Onika is its ability to maintain low ambient noise levels onboard, due to Delta Marine’s use of bushings, rubber mounts, and similar spacers across the decks. This construction technique allows the decks to 'float', effectively isolating vibration and machinery noise.
Accommodation
Onika offers accommodation for six individuals, across three spacious cabins located on the lower deck. These cabins are accessible by a lift, ensuring ease of movement for all guests aboard.
The centerpiece of the accommodation is the full-beam owner's suite situated amidships. This suite boasts a study, a unique addition that reflects the owners' desire for a personal space dedicated to quiet reflection or work.
Each cabin on Onika is finished with clear, straight-grained German Spessart oak on the walls, which are naturally finished to a light honey color, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The heated marble floors in each en suite bathroom extend to a wainscot, meeting with classic beach house-inspired wall decorations that add a touch of elegance and homeliness to the spaces.
The color palette within the cabins is bold and dramatic, featuring rich blues, reds, and greens across various textures, providing a visually striking and luxurious environment for guests. Furniture pieces in the suites, including dressers, are uniquely shaped in bow and serpentine configurations, featuring mahogany and chestnut burl with anigre inlays.
For entertainment and comfort, all cabins are equipped with iPads that control the entertainment systems, climate, and lighting, allowing guests to customize their environment with ease and precision.
Onika is also capable of carrying up to eight crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (C32) 1,600hp engines running at 2300rpm, motor yacht Onika is capable of reaching a top speed of 16 knots, and comfortably cruises at 13 knots. With her 55,721 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 4,000 nautical miles at 12 knots.
