Key Features

  • 9,000 nautical mile cruising range
  • Designed for extreme sea conditions
  • Spacious master cabin with skylights
  • Hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system

Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 9m beam and a 4.9m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Exterior Design

Scintilla Maris features a steel hull with plates measuring 10mm above the waterline and 15mm below, ensuring durability and robustness that exceed typical explorer yachts. The hull has been reinforced to eliminate any dents from its previous life as a beam trawler, providing a smooth and sturdy surface.

On the fo'c'sle, dual high holding power anchors weighing 360 kg each are positioned to handle various seabeds. The yacht also includes an electric anchor capability, allowing it to venture into regions that might be inaccessible to similar-sized expedition yachts.

The bulwarks are designed for both safety and function, offering protection in harsh sea conditions while contributing to the vessel's visual appeal. The hull modifications, including cutting out sections amidships to create steps leading down to the water level, have increased hull stiffness through the addition of steel box reinforcements under each staircase.

The upper deck features numerous skylights, totaling 30, that provide natural light to the accommodation areas below. The foremast and side steps offer a clear perspective of the yacht's size and are practical additions for crew operations.

The yacht's exterior also includes a robust steering gear housing on the upper deck, ensuring reliable navigation. The sundeck is designed for both leisure and safety, equipped with marine-grade materials that withstand sun and salt, ensuring longevity and ease of maintenance. Sun lounge seating is featured on the bridge deck aft, while al fresco dining areas, a BBQ station, and a bar are nestled under the protective hardtop on the sun deck aft.

The radar mast, integrated into the design, supports autonomous navigation with state-of-the-art equipment.

Scintilla Maris offers a robust displacement steel hull with hybrid diesel-electric propulsion, ensuring durability and efficient performance.

Interior Design

Materials used throughout the vessel include high-pressure laminate paneling, which offers enhanced durability and impact resistance, and brass-framed windows and portholes. Floating interior floors and low-frequency insulation are installed to minimize noise and vibration.

The galley is outfitted with state-of-the-art appliances designed to meet the needs of any culinary requirement. It features ample storage, modern cooking equipment, and durable surfaces that facilitate ease of use and cleaning. Adjacent to the galley is a dining room equipped with a TV and storage space for china and cutlery, making it a functional area for both casual and formal dining experiences.

The wheelhouse is equipped with advanced navigational and communication systems. It features the AlphaTron Alpha Bridge with three 55-inch main screens and four 21-inch auxiliary screens. The layout allows the crew to access all necessary controls and information quickly and efficiently. Additionally, the wheelhouse includes a fully equipped ship’s communication station with a GMD-SS A3 system.

The saloon and library areas are spacious and feature large windows that provide excellent views and allow natural light to flood the space. These areas also incorporate recessed and indirect lighting to create a comfortable atmosphere during nighttime. The outdoor galley and serving area are suitable for hosting gatherings and parties.

Accommodation

Scintilla Maris is designed to host up to 10 guests across a total of five cabins. The layout ensures that each guest experiences a stay characterized by comfort and privacy.

The master cabin, located below deck, spans the full beam of the yacht, offering a generous amount of space and headroom. It includes a separate toilet and a large shower, along with his and her sinks situated directly under the original hatch. The master cabin also features a comfortable lounging area and a workspace with a monitor to keep an eye on the ship's essential systems.

In addition to the master cabin, Scintilla Maris has four additional guest cabins. These cabins are designed to maximize comfort and natural light, with an ample number of portholes and skylights. Each cabin is equipped with a unique, silent climate control system to ensure a restful sleep without any noise disturbances from the air conditioning.

The crew quarters are designed to comfortably house nine crew members. These quarters are located on the main deck, ensuring ample headroom and easy access to the upper deck without disturbing the guests. The crew accommodation includes a crew galley with Miele appliances, a Bosch oven and hob, and a pantry area. There is also a crew mess area where crew members can relax during their downtime.

Performance & Capabilities

Scintilla Maris is powered by a sophisticated hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system, reflecting modern advances in marine engineering. The main propulsion is driven by a variable frequency motor designed by Morelli, delivering 1,300 kilowatts in a redundant setup. This system is prepared for future integration with a 2MW EST Flowtech lithium-ion battery bank, primarily for hotel load and peak shaving, but also capable of silently powering the bow and stern thrusters.

Three Volvo D16 generators, each rated at 585 kW and compliant with Tier 3 emission standards, provide the necessary power. Additionally, a Volvo D5 auxiliary generator rated at 92 kW is available for less demanding power needs.

During sea trials, Scintilla Maris reached a maximum speed of 12 knots. The yacht excels in its cruising capabilities, comfortably sailing at 9 knots on just one generator. This allows for an impressive range of 9,000 nautical miles, enabling transoceanic voyages without the need for refueling. With IMO Tier 3 emissions standards activated, the range is reduced to 2,000 nautical miles.

The vessel boasts a fuel storage capacity of 154 cubic meters, essential for long-range expeditions. This capacity supports the hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system, ensuring sustained operation over extended voyages.

Scintilla Maris is equipped with a 100 kW bow and stern thruster, enhancing maneuverability in tight spaces and simplifying docking and undocking procedures. The vessel also features a 90 kVA 60 Hz transformer for connecting to shore power, accommodating a variety of power supply options when docked.

For diving enthusiasts, the yacht includes a dedicated air compressor, allowing for underwater exploration without reliance on shore facilities. The engine room, a multi-level space, combines performance, sustainability, and self-sufficiency, aligning with the vessel's mission of long-range, versatile exploration.

Scintilla Maris features a spacious master cabin with skylights, al fresco dining, and advanced navigational systems, perfect for luxury cruising.
