Horizon Yachts History & Heritage
Founded in 1987 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, by CEO John Lu, along with Mr. Gong Shan Chiai and Mr. Cheng Shun Hui, Horizon Yachts has become a leading force in the yacht-building industry.
John Lu, a trained naval architect, aimed to create a versatile fleet of yachts, and if the existing Horizon range didn't meet a client's needs, the shipyard was willing to build a custom vessel for them.
The Horizon range spans from owner-operated flybridge cruisers to custom superyachts, encompassing power catamarans, explorer yachts, slow displacement and fast-planing models, and more. As Taiwan's largest yacht builder and one of the world's largest, Horizon has significantly expanded its production capabilities. Under John Lu's leadership, the company acquired three other yacht builders and established specialized yards, including a vacuum composite engineering center for hulls and superstructures, a 15-24m (49-79ft) production yacht facility, and a maintenance and refit yard for vessels over 30m (98ft).
In recent years, Horizon has further promoted the yachting lifestyle in Taiwan by developing Horizon City Marina and a yacht club. Today, the Horizon Group contributes to one-third of Taiwan's total yacht exports, establishing the country as one of the world's top five luxury megayacht-building nations.
