In 2016, Slovenian boatyard EJET embarked on a mission to create an electric jet tender that combines the benefits of electric propulsion with the speed and range desired by large yacht owners.
Their research culminated with the development and launch of the EJET 4x in January 2024, a 3.95m (13ft) tender with an optimized RIB hull and a 60kW engine. The EJET 4x can reach speeds of up to 35 knots and has a range of 40nm at lower speeds.
The development focused on optimizing the V-shaped under-hull for stable and smooth navigation and engineering the electric powertrain for jet propulsion. "The density of water is 830 times higher than air, making it like constantly climbing uphill," highlighted Žiga Jarc, CEO, EJET, speaking on the unique challenges of electric boating. This required innovative solutions and collaboration with premium partners like Alamarin Jet and Emrax motors to design a customized electric jet propulsion system.
The EJET 4x, designed with input from VOM Creations and naval architect Andrej Justin, is tailored for the superyacht tender market. It features a 7in touch display with GPS for selecting driving modes, hydraulic steering for easy maneuvering, and an actuator system for rapid stops. The tender's Eco Battery mode ensures a secure return in case of low battery, and it comes equipped with LED navigation lights and optional underwater lights.
The standard battery stores 46.2kWh and can be charged via a 6kW charger or a fast-charging 12kW option in 4 hours. Charging can be done from shore power or the mothership.
EJET aims to collaborate with yacht manufacturers to integrate solar panels for clean energy. Žiga notes a surge in demand from clients prioritizing sustainable yachting and eco-friendly lifestyles. Additionally, EJET has unveiled the EJET 9X, a 9m (29ft) tender with a 270kW motor and a hydraulic platform for a private beach at the stern.
