Fourth Mangusta Oceano 44 Superyacht The Great Escape Launched

On 8 March 2025,  the superyacht The Great Escape by Mangusta Yachts officially hit the water.

Built in steel and aluminium at the Overmarine Group’s facility in Viareggio, this vessel is the fourth hull in the Mangusta Oceano 44 series. The date of the launch also marked International Women’s Day, a nod from the yard to what it described as the yacht’s “feminine soul.”

Exterior design comes from Alberto Mancini, whose sculpted, linear profile uses broad glazing and semi-transparent bulwarks to create a strong visual connection to the sea. A dramatic, darker hull finish gives The Great Escape a distinctive look compared to earlier sisterships such as Eva4Eva. Naval architecture is by PierLuigi Ausonio, while the interiors were developed in collaboration between Mangusta and Gianluca Sist of H2 Yacht Design.

This hull was built for a European owner, represented by Camper & Nicholsons broker Gaston Lees-Buckley, who also oversaw the project during its build. The yacht will be based in the Mediterranean following delivery later this year.

The Mangusta Oceano 44 is pitched as a “modern floating loft,” and this version stays true to that brief. Inside the superyacht, the décor is minimalist but warm, using fine woods and marble surfaces throughout. All five staterooms, including a full-beam master suite with a private ocean-facing terrace, share a unified colour palette that ties the design together without feeling repetitive.

Outside, living space is spread across a 104-square-metre sundeck and an expansive aft beach club. When the transom folds down and side platforms extend, the beach area opens into a 180-degree viewing terrace over the sea. On the foredeck of the motor yacht is an infinity pool known as “The Island,” reached via a teak gangway and framed by a lounging zone surrounded by water. A second infinity pool sits on the sundeck, making outdoor relaxation a clear priority.

The Oceano 44 builds on the success of its slightly smaller predecessor, the Mangusta Oceano 43, with added volume and extended deck spaces. Each unit in the series has been fully customised, giving owners a high level of input in the design process. Since its debut design reveal in 2021, the Oceano 44 has attracted owners looking for an ocean-going yacht that balances luxury, privacy, and practicality.

Powered by twin MTU diesel engines, The Great Escape cruises comfortably at 11 knots with a top speed of 15.5 knots. Her range extends to 4,500 nautical miles, and she is fitted with electric stabilisers that function both underway and at anchor to ensure a smooth experience on board.

With The Great Escape now launched, the series continues to grow as a platform for tailor-made superyachts with global cruising capability and a clear architectural identity.
