Italian yard Tankoa has officially announced its brand new Sportiva Line of superyachts in an online unveiling.
Vincenzo Poerio, CEO of Tankoa Yachts, and Luca Dini, who has penned the design for the Sportiva line, gave viewers an insight into the three new yachts that all share an aggressive and sporty profile and a similar style bow that is a mix of a vertical and traditional bow.
The line is made up of three models. The 45m (147ft) Sportiva 45 is all aluminium, whilst the Sportiva 55 and Sportiva 65 feature steel hulls and aluminium superstructures.
“At Tankoa we always try to think of new products that can meet the ever-changing needs of customers in our market segment,” says Tankoa CEO, Vincenzo Poerio. “With this in mind, we met various designers to exchange ideas and views on new products. With Luca Dini we found an immediate harmony of ideas that became concrete a few months later with the first concept of the Sportiva 55: it was love at first sight!”
The unveiling focused mainly on the first model in the series, the 55m (180ft) Sportiva 55, which Luca Dini called “something new and very sporty”. Dini revealed he had taken a conscious decision to move the tender garage to the front of the yacht, leaving the area at the stern, where tenders would normally be stored, open for guest use.
The result is a large beach club, which has a swimming pool sunk into the terraced aft deck with access to a wellness area, complete with gym and sauna, on the lower deck. A novel feature highlighted was a large hull window partially underwater for views both along and below the surface of the sea.
The style is rigorous yet timeless and deliberately contrasts with a layout designed for informal contemporary living.

“The sleek, thoroughbred exterior lines of the 55-metre Sportiva express the yacht’s sporty nature reflected in the ‘tails’ of the upper deck overhangs and the automotive - inspired bow section,” says Luca Dini. “The style is rigorous yet timeless and deliberately contrasts with a layout designed for informal contemporary living.
Vincenzo Poerio pointed out that it was rare for a yacht of this size to remain under 500GT, but that the Sportiva 55 achieves this thanks to a flexible design. The main deck itself has an asymmetrical layout, the circular dining area connects the open aft deck and main salon, but the master stateroom makes use of the full-beam of the superyacht and has access to a Jacuzzi and private sauna.
In terms of accommodation, there are also four guest cabins on the lower deck, with Dini explaining a five-cabin version has already been developed.
Other highlights include a bridge deck with skylounge and a sun deck with a forward hot tub, sunbeds and a bar.
Poerio confirmed that the Sportiva 55 will have a top speed of 16.5 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots, with a range of 3,800nm at 12 knots.
More details on the Sportiva 45 and Sportiva 65 are expected to be released over the coming months.
Although relatively new to the superyacht industry, having debuted its first yacht in 2015, Tankoa has already made quite a name for itself building large yachts individually tailored to client’s ideas, but based on existing and proven design platforms.
This new line represents a first collaboration between Tankoa and Luca Dini, previously Firenze-based Francesco Paszkowski Design, had provided design work on all of Tankoa’s superyachts.
Although the Italian yard has delivered just five yachts to date it has already picked up a number of accolades including a World Superyachts Award, a Boat International Design and Innovation Award and a World Yachts Trophy.
