Okean Yachts History & Heritage
Despite its official establishment in 2015, the genesis of Okean Yachts traces back to 2012 when Nercio Fernandes, a software entrepreneur and avid sailor, embarked on a transformative journey.
Taking delivery of a new 18m (60ft) boat in Miami, Fernandes navigated it over 4,000nm to his residence east of São Paulo. During this extensive voyage, the idea of designing and constructing a contemporary power cruiser began to take shape.
In homage to his late sister Karla, Fernandes crafted the company name, replacing the "C" in Ocean with her initial. The quest for a suitable designer led him to Milanese visionary Paolo Ferragni, known for his innovative approach. Ferragni's design for the 15m (50ft) vessel, featuring distinctive opening side decks, became a hallmark of Okean Yachts.
Okean Yachts embarked on its journey by renting a modest space in a shed in Guaruja, on the South Coast of Brazil, to construct its inaugural yacht, the Okean 50. The yacht garnered attention from one of the largest boat distributors in the USA, propelling the fledgling Brazilian yard into rapid expansion. By 2018, not only had the product line expanded significantly, but the company also faced a backlog of ten boats awaiting construction.
The company's growth is evident in its outgrowing of the initial modest space. While still based in Guaruja, Okean Yachts now occupies two expansive industrial warehouses, boasting a total production area of 10,000 square-meters.
