Fjord Yachts History & Heritage
Fjord Boats has a rich history dating back to the late 1950s when Alf Richard Bjercke, inspired by British and Mediterranean boats at a Hannover boat fair, aimed to replicate their seaworthy qualities. In 1960, along with Finn B. Roer, he founded Fjord Plast in Arendal, Norway, joined shortly after by product developer Jan Herrman Linge.
As demand grew, Fjord relocated to larger premises in 1964, expanding further to 120 employees by 1966. In just a decade, Fjord's success skyrocketed, employing over 700 individuals and offering 72 models from four shipyards. The mid-1970s saw a brief downturn due to the oil crisis, but Fjord rebounded by the late 1970s, introducing more models, including a motor sailor.
In the 1980s, Fjord innovated with the Terne range, a GRP boat combining modern construction with a classic wooden boat look. The new millennium brought a pivotal change in 2006 when German yacht manufacturer HanseYachts acquired Fjord. The introduction of the Fjord 40 Open in 2008 marked a new era, earning the title of European Powerboat of the Year and selling over 200 units.
Since then, Fjord has expanded its lineup with a range of open cruisers, characterized by striking visual appeal, exceptional handling, and luxurious features, reflecting the brand's commitment to innovation and quality in the world of boating.
