The 44.2m motor yacht Island Heiress was delivered to her owners in 1996 by Chinese shipyard Cheoy Lee. Her naval architecture and exterior design comes from the drawing boards of Mulder Design, while Gloria Lo-Gross is responsible for her interior design.

Key Features

  • Upper deck with spa pool
  • Main deck master suite
  • Maximum range of 7,000 nautical miles
  • Outdoor areas with sunpads and loungers

Design & Construction

Designed around a semi-displacement GRP hull and superstructure she features a 8.8m beam and a 2m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 479 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Launched in March 1996 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months.

Exterior Design

Island Heiress features a clipper bow, which contributes to its efficient performance in various sea conditions. The deck is constructed from teak, providing durability and a classic nautical appearance. The hull and superstructure are painted white, offering a clean and timeless look. The boot top and below-the-waterline areas are painted black, adding contrast and a sense of understated elegance.

Outdoor spaces are designed with usability in mind. The top deck is spacious, accommodating sunpads and loungers, along with a small spa pool and bar situated under the radar arch. The main deck aft includes a large outdoor dining area under the shade of the upper deck, complemented by a separate fishing deck equipped with twin fighting chairs and large equipment lockers. This area also provides access to the diving store and a teak-planked boarding and bathing platform.

The yacht's practical nature is further emphasized by its tender and equipment storage solutions. The main tender is a 'Guardian' version of the 6.7m Boston Whaler, outfitted for sport fishing, and is complemented by an Avon Seasport RIB and a Yamaha waverider. These are stored on the upper deck and can be easily launched using a hydraulic crane.

Interior Design

The interior design of Island Heiress is straightforward and functional, reflecting the owner's preference for simplicity and practicality. The main saloon, dining room, and bar form an open-plan layout, separated by a broad, black marble countertop. The marble throughout the yacht is a thin Grama-Blend veneer mounted on weight-saving honeycomb board. Maple woodwork, both plain and bird's-eye, is used extensively, providing a consistent and understated look.

The main seating area features two large sofas, one light brown and the other white, arranged around low tables. A bar with four stools is situated against the aft bulkhead, while an expansive entertainment center occupies the starboard side. The dining room showcases a circular table with a 'Lazy Susan,' made from plate glass with a revolving center and fixed outer ring, standing on a sturdy maple plinth. This piece was custom-made by local craftsmen in Kowloon.

Forward of the dining room, the large galley is equipped with professional-grade catering appliances. Most of the equipment is electric, but there is also a gas supply for cooking with a gas wok, catering to diverse culinary needs.

The helm is designed for efficiency and ease of use. The control and navigational equipment are logically arranged in front of twin black leather watch-keeper's seats. A small steering wheel is present, though the autopilot is expected to handle most steering tasks. The MTU MCS-5 monitoring system oversees all engine functions and most other shipboard systems, ensuring smooth operation during long voyages. The bridge is well-equipped with Furuno sounders and sonar, supporting the yacht's intended use for sport fishing.

The sky lounge offers a comfortable space with panoramic views and includes a mah-jong table, an essential feature for the owner's entertainment. The interior design of Island Heiress focuses on functionality and comfort, suitable for extended trips across the Pacific.

Accommodation

The Island Heiress offers well-appointed accommodations designed to ensure comfort and privacy for up to 12 guests. The yacht features a total of six cabins, including a master suite, two double cabins, and two twin cabins, alongside a smaller spare cabin.

The master suite is located on the main deck and benefits from large windows that allow ample natural light to filter in. The suite includes a king-sized bed, an entertainment center, and plenty of space for two dressing tables and a leather settee. Additionally, the master suite features twin walk-in wardrobes and a bathroom equipped with twin basins and both a bath and a shower.

The guest cabins, found centrally on the lower deck, include two double cabins and two twin cabins, each with its own ensuite bath or shower room. These cabins are designed to offer the utmost comfort and include dressing tables and entertainment centers. There is also a smaller spare cabin with twin bunks and an ensuite shower, providing flexibility for additional guests.

She is also capable of carrying up to 10 crew. The crew area includes five twin cabins, a large crew mess, laundry, storage, and freezer rooms. The captain's cabin is traditionally positioned immediately behind the bridge, ensuring quick access when needed.
