Caterpillar Marine has a broad range that includes marine diesel and dual fuel propulsion engines, auxiliary engines, marine generator sets, and complete gas fuel handling systems. Having already made a name for themselves in 1931 with the company's first diesel tractor model, Caterpillar moved into the marine world, and in 1938 they designed their first engines specifically for use on the water.
These three engines, the D11000, the D13000, and the D17000, carried the hallmarks that are still associated with modern-day Caterpillar engines. They were ruggedly constructed, designed to handle continuous heavy loads, and simple enough to be serviced and maintained by any type of operator.
There are two defined product lines for marine applications: the MaK medium-speed product line has propulsion, auxiliary, and gen set engines in the power range from 1,020kW to 16,000kW. The Caterpillar product line has propulsion engines from 127mhp to 7,682mhp, auxiliary engines from 162bkW to 5,420bkW, and gen sets from 11ekW to 5,200ekW.
With 168 dealers and more than 2,150 locations, Caterpillar’s service commitment extends across all marine sectors, from production and custom yachts to workboats and tankers.
In the 80 years that have passed since their first marine engines, Caterpillar has gone on to become one of the leading providers of medium and high-speed diesel engines, propulsion solutions, and vessel monitoring with a reputation for quality, performance, and reliability.
