Design & Construction
Designed around a GRP hull and superstructure she features a 14.8m beam and a 10.2m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 1,004 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Exterior Design
M5's exterior design is a testament to the yacht's transformative journey from its original conception to the modern marvel it is today. With its 75-meter length, M5 holds the title as the largest single-masted sailing yacht in the world, a stature that is both imposing and elegant on the water. The yacht's impressive beam of 14.8 meters ensures a striking profile and ample deck space, providing guests with luxurious comfort and room to enjoy the open seas.
The initial refit at Pendennis Shipyard not only extended the stern but also introduced cutting-edge Carbo-Link carbon fiber and titanium rigging to support the world’s tallest mast, significantly reducing the yacht's weight aloft and enhancing its sailing performance. This feat of engineering is complemented by the removal of the keel's bulb, which further lowers the vessel's center of gravity and contributes to its sleek, streamlined look.
A key feature of M5's exterior is the composite bimini structures that replaced the fabric and stainless steel versions. These not only lend a modern aesthetic to the yacht but also improve functionality, offering protection from the sun and elements while maintaining the yacht's high-performance capabilities.
The stairway leading to the guest accommodations seamlessly divides the starboard side dining table and bar from the saloon, indicating a thoughtful consideration of space and flow in the yacht's design. The integration of these areas ensures that the main deck living spaces are far from crowded, instead offering an expansive environment for relaxation and socialization.
During the latest refit, the hull and superstructure received a significant color transformation, shifting to a metallic grey from AkzoNobel that not only offers superior heat reflectivity but also imparts a sense of motion and speed to the yacht's appearance. The lighter color selected for the superstructure and the application of a clear coat finish enhance the yacht's sleek and modern profile.
The hardtop design, born from the creative partnership between BM Composites and designer Adriana Monk, is a marvel of carbon fiber construction. Its geometry was inspired by the lines of the mainsheet to the traveler, resulting in a structure that is both visually stunning and perfectly integrated with the yacht's functional aspects. The indirect lighting within the hardtop and the dedicated sunroof above the dining area allow for an unobstructed view of the sails, adding to the guests' sailing experience.
Interior Design
The interior of M5 is a testament to the pursuit of luxury and the seamless integration of classic and contemporary design elements, brought to life by the acclaimed design firm RWD. The recent refit has not only refreshed the yacht's aesthetics but has also allowed for a modernization that aligns with the owner's vision of a high-tech, sleek sailing experience.
Upon stepping into M5's expansive main deck living spaces, the striking high-contrast scheme immediately captures the eye. This has been achieved through a thoughtful combination of old and new pieces, that harmonize to create an environment of understated elegance. The infusion of new stone adds a layer of opulence, while the hardware gives a subtle nod to art deco, hinting at timeless luxury.
In the owner's office and library, the updates are particularly noticeable. New overheads and flooring have rejuvenated these areas, providing a fresh and invigorating workspace and leisure area. The updated color palette has been inspired by a spectacular piece of ancient Egyptian red jasper, reinforcing the yacht's connection to the timeless beauty of natural materials.
One of the crown jewels of M5's interior is the bar top, a piece of art in itself. Crafted from the prized red jasper, it presents a constellation of color and depth that is both captivating and unique. The stone's hardness presented a challenge during the refit, a challenge met with the same ingenuity and commitment to excellence that characterizes every aspect of M5. Each piece of the bar top was meticulously cut by a skilled sculptor from Forte dei Marmi, requiring 75 days to complete, an embodiment of soulful craftsmanship.
The refreshment of the interior was not limited to the visual; "what-ifs" prompted further exploration into material updates, resulting in a space that feels entirely new. The discerning choice of soft goods, informed by the red jasper's hues, complements the yacht's high-contrast theme, adding warmth and texture to the already luxurious setting.
Accommodation
M5 offers accommodation for up to 12 guests in 6 suites comprising an owners cabin, 3 double cabins and 2 twin cabins. She is also capable of carrying up to 14 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
Performance & Capabilities
M5 boasts the world’s tallest mast, crafted from Carbo-Link carbon fibre and titanium rigging—a combination that is both strong and lightweight. This innovative rigging system significantly reduces the weight aloft, contributing to the yacht's remarkable performance and agility. The careful attention to the yacht's sailing dynamics is evident in every aspect of its design, from the sleek lines of the hull to the precise cut of the sails. M5 is a yacht that responds intuitively to the wind and sea, offering an unparalleled sailing experience.
When not under sail, the yacht is powered by twin diesel MTU (12V2000M70) 1,080hp engines, capable of reaching a top speed of 13 knots, and comfortably cruises at 10 knots. With her 60,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 3,455 nautical miles at 11 knots.
M5's design and engineering cater to the thrill of speed without compromising on stability or comfort. The yacht's owner, a true connoisseur of speed, has personally experienced the exhilaration of helming M5 at 22 knots. This impressive speed is a testament to the yacht's aerodynamic finesse and the seamless integration of its sailing systems. Moreover, M5's navigational range is extensive, enabling ambitious voyages and transoceanic adventures.
Amenities
A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. A sumptuous cinema suite allows for movie nights at sea while a swim platform provides easy access to the ocean. The yacht can house plenty of nautical toys and accessories, with a well-appointed tender garage for storing her impressive locker. M5 also features deck jacuzzi which provides excellent views.
