Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and superstructure she features a 9.24m beam and a 3.96m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 831 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in mid 1937. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in April 1938 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in July 1938.

Exterior Design

The exterior of the superyacht Shemara maintains the classic lines of the original 1938 build, carefully preserving the yacht's traditional aesthetic. With slight adjustments for contemporary functionality, the upper deck superstructure has been extended to accommodate a spacious upper salon and day bar. Minor modifications aside, the vessel's silhouette remains true to its heritage.

The hull, from the sheerline down to the waterline, retains the original steel plating, while the main deck portholes have also been preserved. In a nod to the yacht's history, the new superstructure, crafted in aluminum, was left unfaired to maintain the authentic feel of a classic ship. The wheelhouse, once brass, has been reconstructed in aluminum as well.

There is an array of outdoor spaces designed with both aesthetics and utility in mind. The observation deck provides panoramic views, while the bridge deck aft is designed for sunbathing. There's an aft deck on the upper level featuring a plunge pool, and an alfresco dining area on the main deck. Wide side decks, particularly on the upper level, echo the promenade decks found on classic ocean liners, inviting guests to enjoy leisurely strolls in the open air.

Shemara has been transformed - boasting historical charm, a new flair and a refined interior.

Interior Design

The interior design of Shemara is a careful balance between contemporary needs and classic aesthetics, achieved through the collaboration of Design Unlimited and Studioilsa. The vision was to create a residential feel, steering clear of the impersonal ambiance often found in luxury vessels. The result is a space that functions as a private family home on the water, with an eclectic mix of furniture that complements the yacht's heritage.

The restoration process saw the preservation of original elements such as pine plank flooring and teak decking, which have been integrated into the new design to maintain authenticity. Refurbished brass features prominently throughout the yacht, adding to the classic aesthetic. New materials were introduced with a focus on durability and style, ensuring that the historic charm of Shemara is preserved while modern standards of comfort are met.

The main deck houses a large formal salon and dining room, designed for entertainment and social gatherings. The space is characterized by its high-quality finishes and attention to detail, with the restored pine and teak providing warmth and texture. On the upper deck, an informal salon serves as a versatile area for relaxation, complemented by a day bar that opens on three sides to allow natural light and sea breezes to enhance the onboard experience.

The main salon offers a spacious and inviting atmosphere. The design team has successfully blended functionality with style, ensuring that each area of the yacht meets the practical needs of guests while exuding an air of timeless elegance.

Accommodation

Shemara offers refined lodging for up to twelve passengers, excluding crew quarters. The yacht houses a total of six double guest cabins along with a more spacious VIP cabin, all located on the lower deck, ensuring privacy and tranquility away from the yacht's communal areas.

The owner's suite is situated forward on the upper deck. It is designed to provide the owner with a personal retreat that encapsulates the essence of privacy and comfort.

Crew accommodations are also carefully considered, ensuring the staff's comfort and efficiency in attending to guests' needs. These quarters are designed to optimize space and functionality, enabling the crew of 19 to maintain the highest standards of service..

Performance & Capabilities

Shemara is powered by an advanced Rolls-Royce twin diesel-electric (105 P9CRP) 6-cylinder 960hp propulsion system. This sophisticated setup features twin azimuthing pods at the aft, replacing conventional shafts, and significantly enhancing the yacht's maneuverability. The system allows Shemara to perform impressively, achieving a cruise speed of approximately 11 knots and a maximum speed slightly over 14 knots. With her 110,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 900 nautical miles at 11 knots.

The propulsion system provides not only remarkable power but also exceptional quietness and efficiency, contributing to a serene on-board experience. Redundancy within the system ensures reliability, with five main generators that are capable of supplying power ranging from 300kW to a robust 1600kW, adaptable to the yacht's operational requirements.

Shemara is also equipped with a new bow thruster, which complements the azimuthing pods, enabling the yacht to pivot nearly on her own axis. This feature is particularly advantageous when navigating through tight marinas or performing delicate maneuvers.

The engineering overhaul also includes the addition of a dynamic positioning system, an invaluable asset for maintaining the vessel's position without anchoring.
