Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement ice class steel hull and a steel / aluminium superstructure she features a 13.2m beam and a 3.8m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 2,059 GT (Gross Tonnes).
The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.
Exterior Design
Naia's profile features refined lines and curves, including a distinctive boomerang shape that suggests a sense of movement.
Naia's exterior is configured to support a wide range of activities, from scientific marine exploration to leisure. The lower deck at the aft houses a comprehensive diving center, equipped with state-of-the-art systems for oxygen and nitrox generation, as well as a range of diving gear including rebreathers, scooters, and underwater cameras. A 45-square-meter bathing platform can be accessed through watertight doors, allowing for easy entry into the water.
The main deck forward of the lazarette is designed to accommodate a substantial garage that holds a custom McWing submarine tender, a Goldfish tender, and the notable VAS submarine. The high-tensile steel and Kevlar/fiberglass construction of the submarine ensure both durability and sleekness.
On the sun deck, Naia boasts an HCA fully certified helipad capable of supporting commercial helicopter operations. Designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, the helipad features a teak surface with an off-white 'H' symbol, which is fully functional and yet aesthetically integrated into the yacht's design, even potentially serving as a dance floor. The sun deck also provides ample space for relaxation and fitness, including a 54-square-meter gym and an eight-person spa pool.
Interior Design
The main saloon is a versatile space, incorporating three distinct areas tailored to relaxation and entertainment. It features a bar, an informal dining area, and a seating space. The integration of a concealed 60-inch plasma screen and a 120-inch cinema projection screen caters to the varied leisure needs of guests. Berryman employed a subdued palette and organic materials throughout this area. Raffia and textured wood paneling adorn the walls, while the flooring is aged timber, contributing to the room's welcoming ambiance. Woven leather area rugs in certain sections add a layer of warmth and sophistication.
Throughout Naia, a variety of woods including oak, wenge, and walnut have been processed with techniques such as sandblasting or wire brushing to accentuate their natural grain. This not only provides a tactile experience but also lends each space a distinct character.
The central glass elevator serves as a focal point for circulation, providing access to all decks and adding a modern touch to the interior. It is situated within a bamboo-covered corridor, exemplifying the yacht's commitment to natural materials and textures.
Accommodation
Accommodations aboard Naia present an exceptional level of comfort for up to 12 guests facilitated through the thoughtful design and layout of her cabins. The yacht features a total of six guest cabins, each crafted to provide a serene and inviting atmosphere for rest and relaxation.
The centerpiece of Naia's accommodations is the owner's suite, located on a dedicated deck and offering panoramic views. Situated beneath a magnificent skylight, the owner's suite allows for star-gazing and natural illumination during the day. The suite's bathroom is a statement of craftsmanship, featuring a bathtub carved from a single piece of limestone.
In addition to the owner's suite, the yacht includes a VIP cabin that showcases a harmonious blend of luxury and functionality. This cabin is distinguished by a shoji screen that discreetly separates the sleeping area from a private office and lounge, offering guests a versatile space to work or unwind. As with all guest accommodations on Naia, the VIP cabin is fitted with an en suite bathroom and state-of-the-art audio-visual systems controlled via iPads.
The remaining guest cabins are appointed with twin or double sleeping arrangements to cater to a variety of guest preferences. Each ensuite cabin is designed with textured wood walls and rough limestone accents, creating a calm and tactile environment.
The yacht provides crew accommodation that is both spacious and comfortable. The lower deck houses the crew quarters, designed to offer a generous living space that includes a well-sized lounge. Additional crew cabins are located on the main deck, accommodating up to six crew members, along with a dedicated pilot cabin. The design incorporates a private crew stairway that grants access through the yacht, and a galley is available on every guest deck to support the needs of both guests and crew efficiently.
Performance & Capabilities
Naia is powered by two robust Caterpillar 3516C engines. These engines provide a combined power output of 4,700kW, propelling the yacht with a consistent and reliable force. This substantial power allows Naia to achieve cruising speeds that make long-range travel both feasible and efficient. The vessel is capable of reaching a maximum speed of 14.5 knots, facilitating swift passage through the ocean's vast expanses.
One of Naia's defining traits is her impressive range. The yacht is equipped to travel 10,000 nautical miles without the need for refueling, granting her the independence to traverse the Pacific or explore remote regions without logistical constraints.
To enhance onboard comfort, particularly when stationary, Naia is fitted with Quantum QC2200 zero speed 'at anchor' stabilizers. These sophisticated systems work to reduce the yacht's roll, ensuring a smoother experience for guests and crew, whether the yacht is underway or at rest in the open sea. The stabilizers' advanced technology ensures that even in challenging conditions, the stability and serenity within Naia remain uncompromised.
Supporting the yacht's primary engines are three 450kW generators powered by Caterpillar C18 engines. These generators are integral to Naia's dynamic positioning system, which requires robust and reliable electrical power. Additionally, a fourth generator rated at 275kW ensures there is ample power for all onboard systems, including scientific equipment, luxury amenities, and safety features.
The yacht's water capacity stands at 67,610 liters (17,860 US gallons), ensuring ample fresh water supply for extended voyages. This capacity underscores the yacht's self-sufficiency and the ability to support her guests and crew comfortably for prolonged periods at sea.
Tenders
Naia's tender garage houses an impressive fleet, including a 9.1m McMullen & Wing diving tender designed to support submarine operations, an 8.9m Goldfish RIB, and two 6.2m Pascoe Jet RIBs. The fleet is complemented by the VAS 525 8.9m 5-person submarine, a focal point of Naia's exploration capabilities, enabling underwater exploration to depths of 160 meters.
