On Deck

Carl's tour begins on the aft deck of the Bavaria Virtess 420 Fly, where he draws attention to the optional versatile seating layout. This area is designed to be highly adaptable, with seat modules that run on tracks, allowing for a range of configurations, including a standard fixed aft transom bench or various arrangements for socializing and lounging. Another notable feature is the Hi-Lo bathing platform, which is an available option that offers easy access to the water, enhancing the yacht's connection with the sea.

Moving onto the flybridge, Carl points out the long stretch of seating that extends around the space, capable of accommodating a large number of guests. The flybridge is equipped with a Hi-Lo table that can convert into a massive sun pad, complemented by a wet bar with an optional grill, a fridge, and space for an ice maker. Despite feeling a bit narrow, Carl notes the sense of safety and enclosure provided by the substantial mouldings and backrests. The Bimini canopy, which comes as standard, adds further comfort and protection.

Inside the deck salon, the layout is described as fairly conventional with a galley situated up and forward—a design choice that allows for the inclusion of three cabins below. The dinette area includes versatile stools with adjustable backrests that can be repositioned onto the aft deck, offering flexibility in dining and socialising areas.

At the lower helm, the Bavaria Virtess 420 Fly features IPS 600 units, each delivering 440 horsepower, and the option for joystick control regardless of choosing stern drives or pod drives. Jack appreciates the double helm seat, excellent forward visibility, and the practicality of the setup, although he mentions a preference for a different arrangement of the throttle and joystick controls. The helm is slightly dated, with space for only one multifunction display screen.

Owner's Cabin

The owner's stateroom is a highlight of the tour, presented as a full-fledged stateroom with a sizable ensuite. Despite a somewhat tight entrance, the space feels appropriate for an owner's cabin, offering a sense of privacy and comfort.

Guest Accommodation 

Carl emphasises that the Virtess 420 provides three good-sized cabins, a feature not commonly found in yachts of this size. The starboard guest cabin boasts better headroom, while the port side cabin is slightly compromised due to the overhead deck salon sole.

Carl reports that both the stern drives and IPS pod drives operate off the same Volvo Penta D6 block. The engines are capable of propelling the yacht to speeds of around 30 knots comfortably, indicating robust performance for a vessel of its size.

Carl's thoughts on the Bavaria Virtess 420 Fly reflect appreciation for its enduring popularity and the practical benefits of its design.
