Princess, known as one of the undisputed kings of flybridge design, continues this legacy with their latest entry-level model, the Princess Y72, part of their larger, more crew-focused yacht range. With its refined design, this vessel is brimming with practicality, style, and an abundance of seating options.
Review Video
The partnership between Princess, Olesinski, and Pininfarina has yielded a design marked by fluid lines, generous glass elements, and a sense of expansiveness, complemented by the distinctive presence of the hardtop, which adds a unique anatomical dimension to the aesthetic.
In addition to its sleek aesthetics, this yacht impresses with its superb four-cabin interior and an impressive top speed of 35 knots, achieved through its modified planing vee hull.
Princess has considered every detail when crafting the interior styling of the Y72. Starting with the flow from the bathing platform through to the cockpit and into the main salon, every aspect is designed to be welcoming and inviting. The combination of modern and classic tones, light woods, and expansive panoramic windows create an onboard space perfect for leisurely summer days.
Flexibility is a key feature of the new Y72, ensuring that it can cater to the needs of any future owner. The main salon, complemented by a Naim audio system, cleverly combines a sociable bar area with an open galley, providing a versatile space for entertaining and relaxation.
Accommodations onboard the Y72 are luxurious and spacious, with eight guests comfortably housed across four beautiful cabins, each with its own accessible en suite. The full-beam master stateroom is a highlight, offering exclusive and private access from the main saloon via a spiral staircase.
Additionally, the Y72 features crew accommodation aft, providing essential onboard support, or this space can serve as an additional guest cabin, adding to the yacht's flexibility and appeal.
Both the upper and lower helms feature ergonomically designed twin seats for optimal support. The consoles are meticulously arranged to ensure all controls and displays are easily accessible to the skipper.
Accommodating up to three multifunction displays (MFDs), the lower helm even provides direct access to the side deck through a convenient door.
On deck, the yacht maintains a cohesive aesthetic, prioritizing style, spaciousness, and safety. The deep and wide side decks lead to a striking forward lounge area equipped with ample seating, sun pads, and a teak table.
Deck stowage is abundant, spanning from bow to stern. The flybridge, a focal point of the yacht, offers a generous wave of seating and sunpads along the starboard side, comfortably accommodating up to eight guests. Additionally, ample deck space and a large wet bar are available on the port side.
Our Verdict
If you want proof that yacht design is going through a halcyon phase, look no further than the Y72. A big, beautiful box-ticking machine that looks neither big nor boxy, this yacht represents the future while smoothly delivering some 50 years of flybridge know-how across the interior and decks. Cruising enthusiasts will appreciate the single-level salon, excellent decks and stowage, and compromise-free four-cabin layout, while others will be thrilled by the glass-clad salon’s amazing array of seating.

Rivals to Consider
Princess has created one of the smoothest, most refined flybridge designs yet with its Y72. And so has Azimut with the 68. Both yachts offer different but very balanced designs, this is particularly the case inside. Where the Princess is smartly modern but familiar, the Azimut goes off on a dreamlike tangent full of shape, colour and the sort of eco-lux we first saw on the Grande Trideck flagship. A smaller yacht, the 68 only manages a bunked fourth cabin but matches the Princess in other departments. It also offers plenty of options on layout, with a galley up or aft design that allows Owners to choose a raised or aft lounge.
There must be a law somewhere that says a Princess must have a Sunseeker rival. The Sunseeker Manhattan 68 is that boat and, although slightly smaller, it is a very close match, with a privately accessed Owner’s cabin, three good guest cabins, a galley aft salon with a separate dining area and a large, sage and stylish flybridge.
The Absolute 72 Fly is a larger yacht, a fact that is reflected in the impressive full-beam Owner’s stateroom and grown-up salon with its big-yacht dining area. The Absolute adds three guests cabins, two ensuite, and a spacious flybridge to what feels a high-quality yacht.
Another larger yacht, the Ferretti 720 perhaps has more in common with the Absolute than the Princess with the same cabin and salon layout. Although larger, it needs a slight step up in the salon for the cabin below, not an issue, more a testament to the design of the single-level Princess.

The star here is the use of space, with four good cabins including two twin-berth guest quarters where the competition might only offer a bunked fourth. A useful twin-bunked crew cabin in the transom will be a necessity for many owner's wanting some assistance operating the yacht. The cabin also gives easy access to the engine bay.
