Rodman Boats History & Heritage

In 1974, Rodman was founded by Manuel Rodriguez in the Spanish port city of Vigo. Struggling to find a name for his new venture, the founder cleverly combined the first syllables of his surname and first name, giving rise to Rodman Naval Construction and Industrial.

Initially focused on building fishing boats, Rodman quickly gained recognition in the industry by expanding into the production of sportsboats. The company underwent key developments, including relocating to larger premises in Moana in 1986 and merging with Abada in 1992, forming Rodman Polyships.

As the new millennium dawned, Rodman's production continued to grow, leading to the establishment of MetalShips & Docks in 2000 — a shipyard specializing in steel and aluminum ship construction and repair. To streamline its expanding activities, the Rodman Group was formed in 2008.

Today, the Rodman Group oversees four distinct shipyards: Metalships & Docks in Vigo, Rodman Polyships in Moaña, Rodman Lusitania in Valença do Minho, and Neuvisa in Moaña. The group, with a presence in over 60 countries, employs around 500 individuals and operates across 240,000 square meters of industrial premises. Apart from its range of motor yachts, the Rodman Group constructs fast patrol boats, work boats, and large passenger vessels, showcasing its capability to build steel boats with hulls up to 170m (558ft).
