Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 39'1" beam and a 11'4" draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 1,577 GT (Gross Tonnes). The design also incorporates a heli-pad.
The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in June 2017 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in July 2017.
Exterior Design
Drawing inspiration from the classic white yachts of the 1930s to 1950s, it reflects the owner's passion for glamour and luxury, yet remains subtly discreet.
Crafted to perfection by Feadship, the yacht's exterior showcases the incredible attention to detail that went into its construction. The scalloping details on Lunasea’s superstructure catch the light, adding depth and character to the yacht's profile. These surface changes create a highlight, presenting a sharp, angular line when viewed up close, but appearing softer and more subtle when seen from a distance.
One of the most distinctive features of Lunasea's exterior is the mast. Designed to be an artistic statement in its own right, the mast cleverly conceals all technological and ventilation systems. The wings that hold the domes on the mast were inspired by the shape of fish tails, further enhancing the yacht's oceanic connection.
The use of glass on the yacht’s exterior adds an element of modernity to the design. Large, curved glass pieces can be found on the bulwarks and exterior stairways, and in the spectacular eight-metre-long infinity swimming pool on the main deck. This extensive use of glass not only provides breathtaking views of the surrounding seascape but also adds to the yacht's sleek, contemporary aesthetic.
The yacht's sundeck is another testament to the thoughtfulness of Lunasea's exterior design. It features a spa pool, a smaller bar, and a dining settee at the forward end, and loungers with optional shading at the aft. The mid-section of the deck is designed as an indoor/outdoor living room that can be fully enclosed, providing the perfect setting for social gatherings or quiet relaxation, regardless of weather conditions.
Lunasea was designed not just for luxury, but for functionality as well. The yacht's distinctive layout, with direct access to the stern beach club from all four lower deck guest cabins, speaks to this commitment to practicality and comfort.
Interior Design
The floating staircase, set on stainless steel stringers, is a key feature. The stairs themselves are walnut with a leather tread, which is stitched to match the other leather found on board, while glass balustrades allow the light to come through, filtering down through the decks below.
In terms of materials, stainless steel features prominently throughout, adding a sleek, modern edge to the yacht's interior. This is complemented by the use of walnut, eucalyptus, and limed oak, which tie everything together. The stained walnut flooring runs throughout all the communal living areas, from the beach club to the corridors and staircases.
The upper saloon serves as the main convivial space, with a comfortable, window-filled saloon and large bar to port. The sundeck presents another unexpected saloon option, designed as an indoor/outdoor living room, complete with an enormous bar that can be closed off entirely. This saloon is outfitted more like the interior of a beach house rather than an outdoor patio, enhancing the overall sense of comfort and livability.
Accommodation
Lunasea can comfortably accommodate 12 guests in six well-appointed cabins. The cabin configuration includes one master suite, two VIP suites, and three guest cabins that are convertible to twin or double rooms, providing flexibility for guests.
The master suite offers ample space and light. It features a king-size bed, a lavish en-suite bathroom, and a private office, providing a serene sanctuary for the yacht's owners. The room is adorned with Loro Piana fabrics on the walls and silky eucalyptus flooring, chosen as a nod to the owners' Australian roots. The suite also boasts interesting materials, such as a blue fanned straw marquetry wall panel trimmed in bronze and dyed blue vellum parchment used in the cabinets.
The VIP suites are similarly luxurious, designed with a focus on comfort and elegance. All guest cabins have direct access to the stern beach club, adding an extra layer of convenience and exclusivity. Each guest cabin is almost identical in styling, featuring limed oak walls and Carrara marble in the bathrooms, with subtle variations in fabrics to create a unique feel in each room.
The yacht also includes two extra rooms, which can be used for a nanny or teacher. This feature allows for comfortable and extended family stays onboard, enhancing the yacht's appeal as a home away from home.
In terms of crew accommodation, Lunasea surpasses typical standards. The size of the crew cabins has been expanded, and the interior styling enhanced, reflecting the owners' belief in taking good care of the crew. To avoid crew burnout, the yacht operates with a team of 30 crew members, allowing for a 10-person rotation schedule. This not only ensures the best service for guests but also contributes to a positive work environment for the crew.
