Design & Construction

Designed around a kevlar/carbon/epoxy hull and an alustar superstructure she features a 31'2" beam and a 14'7" draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 252 GT (Gross Tonnes).

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in February 2014 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months.

Exterior Design

Wisp presents a profile that balances classic aesthetics with contemporary lines. The spoon bow, a distinguishable feature of the yacht's silhouette, contributes to her commendable performance at sea, ensuring a notably dry experience when underway. This traditional hull form is not only functional but also serves to enhance the vessel's visual appeal, reinforcing the timeless elegance of her design.

The deck of Wisp is thoughtfully arranged, providing ample space for both leisure and maneuvering. The main guest cockpit, combined with the private owner's cockpit, offers a variety of seating options, including outboard-facing bench seats and cleverly integrated additional seating areas. This versatility ensures that all on board can find their own preferred spot to enjoy the journey.

Attention to detail is evident in the integration of boarding ladders, which discretely slide out from concealed wells below the deck, reflecting the yacht's commitment to both aesthetics and functionality. The 9.5-metre beam not only contributes to the yacht's stability but also supports a powerful sail plan, allowing Wisp to carry an impressive amount of sail area with confidence.

The deckhouse styling, while classic at first glance, reveals a modern interpretation upon closer inspection. This design philosophy extends to the air intake louvers, which blend modern materials like carbon fiber with traditional teak veneer, showcasing the yacht's fusion of past and present.

By night, the deck's custom lighting system highlights the structure, including the deckhouses and the towering 57.5-meter carbon mast, which supports a sizable North mainsail. Rondal's deck hardware, featuring a distinctive pattern, complements the yacht's design, with a noteworthy wood and stainless steel pivoting deck block for the mainsheet serving as a focal point.

Wisp's design is a harmonious blend of functional maritime architecture and thoughtful modern touches, resulting in a yacht that is both respectful of her heritage and equipped for contemporary sailing.

Interior Design

The interior of the yacht Wisp presents a harmonious blend of classic design with modern interpretations, eschewing the traditional nautical theme for a contemporary twist on raised paneling. The materials chosen for the interior reflect a preference for natural textures and fine grains, with oak sourced from old, slow-growing trees in Germany for its remarkable grain quality. These are complemented by stained walnut flooring, cross-banded oak with wenge inlays on the walls, and ceilings adorned with paint and fabric inserts to enhance the atmosphere with a sense of warmth and comfort.

Illumination within Wisp is strategically designed to enhance the yacht's interior ambience. Custom lighting solutions highlight the deckhouses and mast, creating a visual spectacle that extends into the evening hours. During the day, natural light filters through the deckhouses, casting a serene glow across the interior spaces.

The dining area is designed to facilitate an intimate gastronomic experience, with the layout optimizing space and providing a setting conducive to both casual and formal occasions. The central box cleverly conceals the mast step, contributing to the spatial efficiency and allowing for an uninterrupted flow between the dining zone and the adjoining lower saloon area.

Attention to detail is evident in the helm station, where the yacht's wheels are crafted with precision and integrated into a rod system that ensures sensitive and direct control. Instrument panels remain out of sight, concealed by roller blinds when not in use, preserving the clean lines and uncluttered aesthetic of the helm area.

Accommodation

Accommodations aboard the Wisp are designed to cater to the comfort and privacy of her guests with a thoughtful layout that maximizes the use of space. The yacht welcomes guests with an elegant owner's suite and two additional guest cabins, ensuring an intimate and serene experience at sea.

The owner's suite is a showcase of intelligent design, featuring a spacious sleeping area and an en suite bathroom. The suite includes a private study/lounge, ideal for work or relaxation, and is complemented by a half-domed foyer leading up to the exclusive owner's deckhouse. Sliding doors are present to offer the utmost privacy, allowing the owner to segregate their quarters from the rest of the vessel when necessary.

Accommodations for guests are equally impressive. The two guest cabins have been configured to provide an illusion of greater space by cleverly orienting the rooms fore and aft and integrating a small study area, enhancing the overall sense of comfort and spaciousness. The guest cabins' design also includes thoughtful placement of the forward bulkhead and en suite facilities to ensure that the proportions remain pleasant and the cabins do not feel overwhelmed by the yacht's significant beam.

Crew quarters for seven are situated forward, with careful attention to the utilization of space, as evidenced by the placement of various amenities such as the laundry room, which gains its headroom from the space beneath the captain's cabin bed located above.

Performance & Capabilities

Wisp's sailing prowess is evident in her sail configuration, provided by North Sails, with a total sail area that is both extensive and versatile. The mainsail covers an area of 577m², supported by additional sails including a Yankee sail at 527m², a Blade sail at 457m², a Staysail at 236m², and an MPS (spinnaker) at a remarkable 1,252m². These sails, hoisted on Rondal spars and managed by Rondal winches, allow Wisp to reach impressive speeds. At 100 degrees apparent wind, Wisp can travel at 12 knots and can easily accelerate to 14 knots. On a close reach, she is capable of reaching speeds of 15 to 16 knots and maintains a stable course at 40 degrees upwind.

The yacht's performance is further enhanced by the hull's design, featuring a spoon bow that provides excellent handling in heavy seas, lifting the bow and stern to mitigate the impact of waves. The 9.5-metre beam not only contributes to interior spaciousness but also adds to Wisp's form stability and sailing efficiency, allowing for a powerful rig and substantial sail area without compromising upwind capabilities.

Wisp's hull design and beam offer natural stability while under sail. Additional information on mechanical stabilizers, if any, has not been provided. However, the yacht's handling characteristics are noted to include a responsive steering system that connects the wheels directly to the cables and quadrants through a rod system, allowing the helmsman to feel every nuance of the sea and wind.

Wisp is equipped with state-of-the-art OYS retractable bow and stern thrusters, enhancing her maneuverability and precision in docking and navigating through tight spaces.

When not under sail, Wisp is powered by a diesel Caterpillar (C18 Acert) 715hp engine running at 2100rpm. This enables Wisp to reach a top speed of 14 knots, and cruise at 10 knots. With her 22,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 5,570 nautical miles at 10 knots.
