Columbus Yachts’ new 49.5m superyacht K2 has successfully launched and completed its sea trials.
K2 is the first of its new Sport 50 (S50) line and has been commissioned by a repeat customer for his third project with Palumbo Superyachts, of which Columbus Yachts are a brand.
Accommodating 11 guests across five comfortable cabins, K2 stems from the naval engineering of Palumbo Superyachts in collaboration with Hydro Tec. Luca Dini Design and Architecture is responsible for the external lines and interior design.
The 499GT superyacht combines a shallow 2.2m (7.2ft) draft with a newly-designed hull that claims to deliver improved ride-quality even in rough sea conditions.
Powered by two 2,600hp MTU engines, K2 reaches a top speed of 21.5knots and has a cruising speed of 17knots with a long-range, transocean capability also being suggested.
Her sea trials also revealed very low noise levels in the guest cabins, despite engines operating at 85% of power with a speed just above 20knots.
K2 is scheduled to make her official debut at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.
Established in 2008 Columbus Yachts is part of the Palumbo Superyachts brand, launching its first superyacht the 54m (177ft) PRIMA (literally translating to ‘the first’) in 2011. Since then another four Columbus superyachts have hit the water and with an average length of 53.9m (177ft), they have established a tradition for large elegant yachts.
Aside from K2, the shipyard is also working on the 50m (164ft) 'Project Lady' which is set for delivery in 2022.
