With spacious decks and interiors, robust styling and versatile performance, trawler and SUV yachts are both eye-catching and hugely capable.
The SUV design genre is one of the emerging design genres in the yachting world, whilst the trawler yacht is going through a renaissance with many of the world’s top builders offering more contemporary takes on the traditional trawler design.
Both of these factors mean there are some stunning options in both categories to keep an eye on at Cannes this year. Here we outline five of our favorites:
Azimut Magellano 66
Billed by Azimut as “a megayacht in just 20m” the Magellano 66 will be making its world debut at Cannes.
This modern trawler yacht’s large hull gives room for internal volumes greater than similar sized boats and Azimut has certainly delivered when it comes to the interiors, with plenty of luxury and privacy thanks to Azimut’s Navetta option. This allows the living area to be separated from the forward piloting and galley area, so the crew can do their jobs without accessing any spaces reserved for the Owner and guests.
Performance is smooth and stable thanks to the new Dual Mode Hull generation, which ensures comfortable navigation and excellent seakeeping even in moderate sea conditions.
With the option for a three or four-cabin layout and a top speed of 23 knots, the Magellano is a yacht for long journeys and yet another addition to the first-class fleet of Azimut yachts for sale.
Beneteau Grand Trawler 62
The 18.95m (62ft) Grand Trawler 62 is the first full-displacement hull from Beneteau and you could say it has been designed by its own customers, coming about as the result of a survey of its Swift Trawler owners in 2020.
The survey had three main findings: there was a strong family use of the boat; most owners had in excess of 15 years of boating; and the vast majority used their boat at a slow speed. These results acted as a guideline in the design and build of the Grand Trawler 62, which is the new flagship of Beneteau's Grand Trawler range.
Space has been made a priority in the open and flowing interiors, with a clever mix of large social spaces and comfortable private spaces onboard. The yacht is available in three and four-cabin layouts.
The full displacement hull is designed to optimize the cruising range and efficiency and is sturdy, quiet and easy to maneuver thanks to bow and aft thrusters and joystick controls.
Always displaying a real attempt to understand how its customers use their yachts, Beneteau’s Grand Trawler 62 will be making her long-awaited world debut at Cannes.
Numarine 37 XP
Numarine’s striking 37 XP explorer yacht will be one of the newest to feature at Cannes, launched at the beginning of this month and set to be delivered to her new Owner imminently.
The 37m (121ft) motor yacht is part of the yard’s XP series and carries the DNA of the line with her strong and powerful look and eye-catching large angular windows dominating her exteriors.
Inside she has the same beam as her smaller sister the 32 XP, but the four extra meters lengthwise create a true sense of space in this six-cabin yacht, with a number of social areas, an aft beach club with a bathing platform and an inside lounge that sits almost on the water level. Her flybridge is roomy too, measuring almost 10m (32.8ft) long and with nearly 80 square meters (262 sq. ft) of space.
Of course, as an explorer yacht her performance capabilities are under close scrutiny, and the 37 XP certainly steps up to the plate, with a range of 6,000nm at 8 knots and a top speed of 14 knots.
Numarine’s XP range has proved hugely popular over the years, evidenced by the fact that the 37 XP will be joined by the 12th hull of its 26 XP at Cannes. Also joining them will be its ‘mini-exploration yacht’ the 22 XP, first unveiled in February of this year.
Sirena 68
Announced in April this year, the 21.4m (70ft) Sirena 68 is the latest addition to the Sirena Yachts fleet and incorporates a modern, highly practical trawler yacht design with a versatile German Frers-designed semi placement hull.
The inside spaces are full of natural light thanks to an open plan design and large panes of glass, which particularly benefit the full-beam master suite of this three-cabin motor yacht. On deck there is ample space for relaxing and the deep bathing platform takes guests right to the water’s edge.
Performance figures see a 1,200nm range at 10 knots and top speeds of up to 28 knots depending on the engine specification.
The Turkish yard has designed the Sirena 68 as a response to its customers’ requests, calling it “an upgrade in comfort and confidence in all areas”. It looks set to be the star of the show for Sirena at Cannes as it makes its world debut, and it will also be joined by the Sirena 58 and Sirena 88.
Wally WHY200
Wally’s new WHY200 motor yacht will be one of the most eagerly anticipated debuts at Cannes, with visitors waiting to find out if it lives up to some pretty high expectations.
The 27.05m (88.7ft) motor yacht is the French yard’s take on the super flybridge concept, with the builder dishing out some pretty impressive details in the build-up to her official unveiling.
We know for sure this is Wally’s first model with an enclosed bridge, and the builder also says it delivers 50% more living space than traditional yachts of its length with over 200-square-meters (2,153 sq. ft) of living space spread across her main deck and upper deck.
Throw in a large beach club with fold-out wings, 144 square meters (1,550 sq. ft) of deck space and a 37 square meter (398 sq. ft) Owner’s suite with amazing views and this four-cabin yacht looks set to uphold Wally’s prestigious reputation.
