Grand Banks has confirmed its new flagship yacht has come through its preliminary sea trials with flying colors.
The Grand Banks 85 hit a top speed of 21 knots according to the Singapore-based yard and looks set to fulfill the builder’s expectations when she started production last spring.
“We had one primary objective above all when we started the 85,” said Mark Richards, CEO of Grand Banks. “To deliver the most fuel-efficient, high-speed, long-range cruiser of this size in the world. Period. It is incredibly exciting to tick this box right out of the gate on what is not yet even the official sea trial.”
One of the key philosophies behind the 26m (85ft) motor yacht is a focus on weight reduction, whilst at the same time increasing the boat’s strength. Lightweight vacuum-infused fiberglass and carbon fiber construction achieve this aim, and give the GRand Banks 85 a half-load displacement of 108,000lbs (49,000kg) and a 1,000nm range at fast cruising speeds.
She also features a unique warped hull design based on the key components of high-performance sailboats, wetted surface, reduction of energy and running attitude. This helps keep the full waterline in the water, thereby staying flat. The Grand Banks 85 is powered by twin 1,000-hp Volvo IPS 1350s.
Grand Banks is set to continue the fit-out of the vessel in preparation for official sea trials in the coming months, ahead of the delivery to her new Owner.
Established in 1956, Grand Banks was a pioneer for first the trawler yacht and then the downeast cruiser. With a strong focus on quality over quantity Grand Banks produces around 35 boats a year. The Grand Banks 85 is its largest build yet and builds upon the Grand Banks 60. To view its entire catalog view all Grand Banks yachts for sale.
