The Italian Sea Group has taken the first step in an exciting expansion plan with the opening of a new construction shed at its Marina di Carrara port.
The shed, which measures 126m (413.3ft) by 26m (85ft), is able to accommodate two vessels up to 80m (262.4ft) in length and is part of the company’s TISG 4.0 expansion plan.
Other improvements as part of the plan will see the renovation of its existing dock to convert it into a covered shed that will be able to accommodate the construction of ships up to 130m in length. In addition, the construction of a shed 145m (475.7ft) by 50m (164ft) is already underway. When it is complete the shed will allow the refit of up to eight yachts at the same time.
The new shed will be equipped with two overhead cranes with a combined capacity of 60 tonnes and a state-of-the-art air purification system for filtering out smoke and dust particles. A photovoltaic system will line the roof of the shed to give a power coverage of 100kW and an electrical conversion cabinet will provide solar energy to support shipbuilding activities.
The Italian Sea Group is made up of the Tecnomar, NCA Refit and Admiral Yacht brands and its yard within the port of Marina di Carrara is the largest private dry dock in the Mediterranean and the only one capable of accommodating yachts over 100m in length.
It has launched almost 600 yachts since its foundation in 1942 and recently announced its largest and most ambitious build yet, the 100m (328ft) ‘Project TItanium’ which is being built by Admiral and is set to be delivered in 2025.
