In a significant milestone for Livorno, Italy, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Livorno Marina is set to take place this month, marking the culmination of nearly two decades of efforts.
Spearheaded by the renowned Azimut-Benetti Group and D-Marin, a leading operator of marinas in Europe and the United Arab Emirates, the development is poised to transform the city's historic port area.
Designed by Archea of Florence, the Livorno marina project is expected to cost around €UR 15M. Azimut-Benetti's yacht construction site is set to feature 815 yacht berths, complemented by over 220m² of restaurants, 60m² for bars, and 250m² dedicated to offices.
Renovation work on current docks and a jetty is also underway to accommodate the new features, with some areas of the marina reportedly accessible well before the scheduled completion date in June 2026.
During a recent press conference organized by the city, Livorno Mayor Luca Salvetti emphasized the significance of the government concession granted in December.
After 16 years, the procedure to effectively grant the concession was finalized. As a result, work will soon begin on the construction of the Marina, enriching a part of Livorno that connects the city center to the seafront. This represents another milestone in the development, growth, and transformation of the city, which will benefit from the boost to the local economy in terms of both tourism and employment. Despite being less renowned than some of its Tuscan counterparts, Livorno boasts a rich cultural heritage, including a 16th-century fort overlooking the harbor and picturesque canals connecting the harbor to the city. Among its notable attractions is the Terrazza Mascagni, a waterfront promenade adorned with a striking checkerboard pattern.
In line with its commitment to sustainability, the marina's design incorporates eco-friendly features such as hedges and trees instead of traditional fencing, while rainwater recirculation systems will ensure the vitality of green spaces. Solar panels will further reduce the environmental footprint by providing a significant portion of the marina's energy needs.
