Paris Court of Appeal makes ruling on future of Cannes Yachting Festival

After four years of legal proceedings the Paris Appeal Court has ruled in favour of RX France, giving them the rights to manage the show until 2041.

The Paris Court of Appeal has today ruled in favor of RX France (previously Reed Expositions France) in a decision on the rights to organize the Cannes Yachting Festival.

The ruling gives RX France the right to continue to manage the show until 2041 and overturns the ruling of a lower court that had awarded the ownership and management of the show to the Fédération des Industries Nautiques (FIN).

The court case has been going on since 2016 when FIN started legal proceedings in an attempt to cancel a contractual undertaking made by the FIN with RX France in 2011 giving RX France the right to organize the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2021.

Michel Filzi, Chief Executive of RX France, said of the decision: “This is a victory for common sense and good business practices. We entered into the contract in good faith and under our watch the Cannes Yachting Festival has become Europe’s largest in-water boating event. We are particularly grateful for the support we have received from our clients, the host city of Cannes and the Chamber of Commerce of Nice-Côte d’Azur.”

Preparations for the Cannes Yachting Festival have been ongoing, with the show scheduled to take place from 7 to 12 September. The show will welcome 470 exhibitors, 560 boats from 3m (10ft) to 45m (147ft) and around 150 world premieres.

Established now for 44 years,  the Cannes Yachting Festival remains Europe’s leading in-water boating event, spread across two beautiful marinas and offering over 400 linear meters of quayside for monohulls and 450 meters of multihulls.
