Refit transforms 51m explorer yacht MASQUENADA

The nine-month refit has doubled the surface area of the beach club and freed up 200 square meters of main deck space.

The expedition yacht ‘Masquenada’ has been relaunched following an “incredible transformation” by the Italian yard Lusben.

The nine-month refit saw a series of extensive works carried out that has added a large amount of space to the 51m (167ft) motor yacht and completely transformed its interior.

The Owner, fashion entrepreneur and sailing enthusiast Pier Luigi Loro Piana, was fulsome in his praise for the work of the yard.

“The most important element of this entire project was time,” he said in a speech at the Lusben shipyard in Livorno. “Time is the most essential factor for an owner and I am enormously satisfied with the capacity of the Lusben shipyard which, together with all the collaborators, managed to complete this incredible transformation in just a few months. Now, the project for the immediate future is to embark with my family and sail around the world.”

The main part of the work was the removal and extension of the entire stern block and the installation of a transformer that doubled the surface of the beach area. Elsewhere the Bridge and Upper Deck were increased by 1.5m (5ft) each and the removal of the main deck crane and its replacement with a crane below deck freed up an extra 200 square-meters (2,152 sq. ft) on the main deck.

Inside some minor adjustments were made to the layout, with the galley moved and the master cabin slightly changed, but the majority of the work to the interior involved the modification of furniture, decor, ceilings and floors.

The entire superstructure was repainted, as was part of the hull and work was also done to reduce noise and vibration.

Mario Pedol, founder together with Massimo Gino of Nauta Design, worked with his team on the exterior design. He commented, “We are particularly proud of this project that we were lucky enough to follow from the beginning, alongside the owner: The profile of “Masquenada” is now much more sleek and elegant and, in redesigning the stern block, we have managed to improve the contact with the water and the liveability of this area, now transformed into a “pieds dans l’eau”.

The team at Lusben was already familiar with MASQUENADA, having carried out a number of refit operations on her in previous years. The Italian yard has had a busy 2021 and has recently completed refits of the Lurssen 60m (196ft) superyacht OASIS, the Cantiere delle Marche explorer yacht AUDACE and the 48m (157ft) sailing yacht ‘Morning Glory’, famous for being formerly owned by Rupert Murdoch. Its 180m (590.5ft) floating dock means it is able to accommodate the largest luxury yachts in the world.
