Classic 57.3m Feadship superyacht AMARA begins major refit

The refit will see the installation of a helicopter deck along with a range of other work.

The 57.3m (188ft) Feadship superyacht AMARA has returned to her home yard in Makkum to begin an extensive refit project.

Launched by Feadship in 1986 AMARA’s current Owners purchased her in 2020 and decided to carry out a series of upgrades.

The biggest part of the project is the installation of a helicopter deck. This will see a new helideck being constructed at the yard, part of the yacht’s infrastructure removed and the entire new section being placed onto AMARA.

A range of technical and interior work will be undertaken along with the replacement of the teak on her sun deck, and her foredeck being fully relaid in teak to match.

As well as a world-leader in superyacht design and construction, Feadship is also a leading refit and maintenance shipyard.

Last year 57.6m (189ft) superyacht W completed an intensive ten-month refit that saw her emerge with a striking silver hull, two new cabins and a series of technical alterations. Other notable yachts that have been refitted by Feadship in recent years include 67m (220ft) DRIZZLE, 97m (318ft) FAITH, 81m (266ft) AIR and 71.6m (235ft) UTOPIA.

At the time of her delivery in 1986, AMARA was the fifth largest Feadship ever delivered, the largest being 67.4m (221ft) Falcon Lair delivered in 1983.

It is interesting to note how the Dutch shipyard has evolved over the years in the same way the superyacht industry has. In 1990 Falcon Lair still remained the largest Feadship ever built, by 2000 68.58m (225ft) ATTESSA, delivered in 1998, took this title.

Ten years later, in 2010, that title went to 85.96m (282ft) ECSTASEA although Falcon Lair still remained in the Top 10 Feadships by length. By 2015 the largest Feadship build had increased significantly to 101.5m (333ft) SYMPHONY, and today the title rests with ANNA who measures 110m (361ft), although even she will be surpassed by 118m (387ft) ‘Feadship 1010’ which is due to be delivered next year.
