Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 11.51m beam and a 9.83m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 473 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in late 2005. This was the fifth yacht built on the 56m Series design. Launched in February 2008 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in April 2008.
Exterior Design
The exterior design of Bayesian reflects a sleek and functional approach. The black hull features low freeboards and streamlined lines, enhancing hydrodynamic efficiency. The side decks are wide and unobstructed, providing easy passage past the large picture windows of the saloon.
Above the waterline, Bayesian maintains a low profile, with a slight upturn in the sheer line forward of the mast. This design allows for the storage of tenders and water sports equipment in two watertight compartments beneath the foredeck. The aft deck includes a stairway that ascends to the flying bridge, which is laid out to offer dining and lounging facilities, along with the control station for sailing.
A notable aspect of Bayesian is its impressive rig. The yacht is sloop-rigged, featuring the world's tallest aluminum mast, which rises 72 meters above the waterline. This mast was engineered by the shipyard's Mast Division, in collaboration with Germanischer Lloyd and the University of Genoa, and includes a custom-designed 'giga-winch' to handle the increased main halyard tension. The mast's height and design contribute significantly to the yacht's performance, especially in light winds.
The exterior also includes a forward cockpit surrounding the base of the mast, inspired by a similar feature on an earlier yacht from the same shipyard. This area, along with the shaded aft deck, provides additional outdoor living spaces for guests. The bathing platform at the stern folds outwards from the transom, allowing easy access to the water, and is complemented by a separate lazarette that serves as a gymnasium and storage area for water toys.
Interior Design
The interior design of Bayesian integrates a hint of Japanese Zen through the use of natural materials and tactile surfaces. Tessier utilized ebony, bleached and brushed spruce, and natural leather hides, all within a narrow band of color tones, to create an environment of elegant simplicity.
The main saloon features a strong, three-dimensional grid inspired by Bauhaus, formed from narrow bands of dark ebony. This framework defines the room's boundaries, running across sycamore deckheads and highly textured wall claddings. Large windows shaded by Venetian blinds contribute to the space's ambiance. The furniture, made of bleached teak, stainless steel, ebony, and leather, maintains an angular effect while ensuring comfort. Occasional vertical surfaces are clad in stainless steel, creating a transparent appearance that lightens the overall effect. Carefully positioned lighting enhances the room's design.
Tessier's design includes a variety of textures. Visitors are encouraged to touch the raised grain of pale spruce panels, the smoothness of ebony, the irregular texture of woven leather, and the cowhide surfaces from Spinneybeck. The intricate design combines these dissimilar materials to achieve the desired sophisticated atmosphere.
The main deck saloon is an undivided indoor/outdoor living and dining room that opens through wide doors to a fully shaded aft cockpit. The room includes doors to port and starboard, allowing easy entry, and a large sofa that makes the space guest-friendly. Two additional doors lead to the forward cockpit, designed for dining and lounging beneath an awning that fans out from the centrally positioned mast.
Tessier's distinctive interior extends to the guest passageway on the lower deck, where the same lattice of dark ebony creates a strong sense of perspective. The passageway leads aft towards the master suite, maintaining the style from the saloon.
Accommodation
Bayesian is designed to comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests across six well-appointed cabins. The master suite spans the entire beam of the yacht, offering a spacious retreat with a walk-in wardrobe, an athwartships walkway, and a beautifully fitted bathroom featuring a bath, shower, and dual basins. The bedroom itself, elevated on a plinth, provides panoramic sea views through three large portholes and includes a concealed flat-screen television.
The guest cabins consist of four doubles and an additional double-berthed cabin intended for children, ensuring flexibility and comfort for all guests. Each cabin is uniquely designed with subtle variations in layout and decor, following a unified, elegant scheme.
Crew accommodation is thoughtfully arranged forward of the mast, with quarters for seven of the 10 crew members in four cabins. These quarters are conveniently connected to the guest areas for seamless service. The remaining crew members are housed in a double en-suite cabin located near the engine room, ensuring operational efficiency.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (8V 2000 M72) 8-cylinder 965hp engines running at 210rpm, motor yacht Bayesian is capable of reaching a top speed of 15 knots, and comfortably cruises at 12 knots. With her 57,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 3,600 nautical miles.
