K2 is a 163'9" motor yacht delivered by Italian shipyard Columbus Yachts in 2021. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of LUCA DINI Design & Architecture, while Palumbo Superyachts is responsible for her naval architecture.
Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 29'8" beam and a 7'3" draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in mid 2018. Launched in February 2021 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in March 2021.
Exterior Design
K2's exterior design, by Luca Dini, embodies the epitome of elegance and modernity, encapsulating a vision of sleek, long lines combined with a low profile that retains an impressive headroom. The silhouette of this 50-metre tri-deck superyacht is a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship of Columbus Yachts, boasting a volume just shy of 500GT. By maintaining this threshold, K2 enjoys the benefits of being under the bracket that mandates additional certifications, thus optimizing both design efficiency and operational cost-effectiveness without compromising on luxury and performance.
The design considerations of K2, as mandated by the owner's requirements, include an enclosed garage that conceals the tender storage within the yacht's hull, contributing to its streamlined appearance. The owner's preference for a shallow draft led to a broader beam, which further accentuates the yacht's commanding presence on the water while ensuring it remains suitable for cruising in shallower coastal regions.
Luca Dini's expertise in both the interior and exterior realms has rendered K2 a harmonious marvel, where every curve and edge flows seamlessly from stern to bow. The yacht's sporty demeanor is a nod to the owner's previous Columbus Sport 40-metre, with its vertical bow and fleeting contours, yet K2 stands out with its sharper hull lines and a more favorable length-to-beam ratio. These enhancements not only contribute to K2's aesthetically pleasing form but also bolster its hydrodynamic performance.
The yacht's bow is meticulously crafted, with a fine entry point just below the anchor pocket that transitions into a generous riser, cultivating a design that keeps the spray low and the ride smooth. This attention to detail is mirrored in the yacht's propulsion system, opting for deep tunnels for the propellers that work in concert with the vessel's beam to achieve a modest draft without compromising on speed or stability.
K2's exterior layout is a deliberate interplay of light and shade, created by thoughtful elements such as the expansive overhang of the upper deck. This feature not only provides shelter for the outdoor lounge and bar area on the main deck but also presents an engineering triumph, highlighting the yacht's sophisticated balance between form and function.
Interior Design
The interior spaces of K2 showcase a meticulous selection of light sycamore veneers, accented with the darker tones of ziricote wood, which are seamlessly integrated with stainless steel and lacquer details. This refined palette is further enhanced by the use of geometric-patterned marbles, adding an artistic touch to the bathrooms and other key areas within the yacht.
Furnishings from prestigious Italian brands, including many pieces from Fendi's collection, offer an additional layer of opulence and comfort. Rich fabrics and sumptuous leather details complement the yacht's interior, providing a luxurious tactile experience for guests.
K2's commitment to guest comfort extends to the arrangement of the living spaces, where the emphasis on fluidity and light is paramount. The yacht boasts a professionally equipped gym on the main deck, placing fitness and wellness at the forefront of the onboard experience. This space allows guests to maintain their exercise routines while enjoying the inspiring views of the surrounding seascape.
The main saloon echoes the same dedication to luxury and tranquility. It is a private retreat, designed to offer guests a serene space to unwind. The thoughtful use of materials and colors creates a cohesive look that is both contemporary and timeless, ensuring that K2's interior will remain appealing for years to come.
The yacht's design also pays homage to the owner's passion for art, with specially created spaces that house curated works of art. These pieces not only serve as focal points but also integrate into the overall design, contributing to the yacht's precious and luxurious touch.
K2's interior is not just a testament to aesthetic beauty; it is also designed with functionality in mind. The galley, although more compact than the gym, features a central island and a large pantry, making it a user-friendly environment for the crew to prepare gourmet meals and entertain guests.
Accommodation
K2's sophisticated interior, designed by the acclaimed Luca Dini, ensures that up to 11 guests can be accommodated in sublime comfort and privacy throughout their voyage. The yacht boasts five sumptuously appointed cabins, each a sanctuary of tranquility and opulence. The master suite, or owner's cabin, is a highlight of the guest accommodations. This stately retreat offers the yacht's owner a haven of relaxation and sophistication, crafted with meticulous attention to detail and furnished with the finest materials. The suite's design seamlessly blends modern luxury with timeless elegance, ensuring a space that is not only visually stunning but also a comfortable and private escape from the bustling common areas of the yacht.
Guest cabins aboard K2 are no less impressive, each one designed to provide a serene and plush atmosphere for guests. Every cabin features its own distinct character and charm, with the use of light veneers, rich fabrics, and unique geometric patterns in the marble finishes. The thoughtful layout and contemporary design elements ensure that guests experience the same level of luxury and comfort found in the owner's suite.
Crew accommodation on K2 has been carefully considered to ensure that the high standards of service expected on a luxury yacht can be met with ease. The yacht's layout provides for a crew of 11, allowing for a high guest-to-crew ratio that ensures attentive, personalized service for every guest on board. Crew quarters are designed to offer comfort and privacy to the team, facilitating rest and relaxation so they can provide the highest level of service at all times.
Performance & Capabilities
At the heart of K2's impressive performance are two robust MTU 16V2000 M96L engines. Each engine is capable of generating a substantial 1,939 kilowatts of power, a testament to the yacht's designed efficiency and power. This powerhouse enables the K2 to glide through the waters with remarkable ease and agility, ensuring a smooth and exhilarating experience for all on board.
The engineering prowess of Columbus Yachts is on full display with K2's capability to achieve a top speed that exceeds the initial contract speed, reaching approximately 21 to 21.5 knots dependent on conditions. This remarkable speed is achieved through meticulously designed sharp hull lines, which allow the yacht to accelerate swiftly and maintain its cruising pace with grace.
K2 is not only built for speed but also for impressive voyages. With a cruising speed of 12 knots, she boasts an extensive range of 3,000 nautical miles. This ensures that K2 can undertake long passages with confidence, making her an ideal vessel for exploring remote and exotic destinations without the need for frequent refueling stops.
To enhance the comfort of those on board, K2 is equipped with a state-of-the-art stabilization system featuring interceptors and four fins from Naiad. This system is preferred by Hydro Tec's Sergio Cutolo for its effectiveness in improving seakeeping and comfort at anchor. The fins are designed to fit seamlessly within the hull structure, ensuring the yacht maintains an optimal riding attitude even at high speeds or in challenging sea conditions.
The efficiency of K2 extends to her fuel consumption, which is notably modest despite her powerful engines. At a cruising speed of 10 knots, K2's fuel consumption is a mere 70 liters per hour—striking an excellent balance between performance and sustainability.
Constructed to adhere to RINA class standards for unlimited navigation and compliance with MCA rules, K2 is eligible for charter services.
Amenities
The yacht features a well-equipped gym, allowing her guests to keep up their fitness regimes at sea. In addition, a beach club allows for easy access to the water and allows those on board to easily unwind. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. The sundeck is the social hub of the yacht, with a deck jacuzzi for cooling off and an inviting spread of sunpads.
