Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 9.5m beam and a 3.4m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 594 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in late 2000. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.
Exterior Design
Mariù's high-bowed hull is painted in a unique charcoal grey, a choice made by Giorgio Armani to reduce contrast with the water. This gives the yacht a cohesive and understated appearance. The superstructure is finished in a subtle pearl-grey, minimizing glare and making it easier on the eyes when on deck in bright sunlight.
The high bow is not just an aesthetic choice but also practical, enhancing the yacht's seaworthiness. The exterior spaces are well-utilized, offering both functionality and comfort. For instance, the aft deck is enclosed by tinted windows and fully air-conditioned, providing a comfortable dining area that connects directly with the sea through panoramic windows and stairs leading to the stern bathing platform.
On the bridge deck aft, privacy is ensured by the deck's elevated position. This area features a long trestle table and teak and beige canvas director's chairs, along with built-in casual seating along the aft rail, making it a versatile space for dining and relaxation.
The sun deck is another example of practical design, with curved frames extending to reduce draughts and sliding glass doors for added comfort. This deck includes a running machine, a bar area, and teak sun loungers from the Armani Casa collection, shaded by an awning.
Interior Design
Upon entering Mariù through the small starboard-side lobby, one is immediately struck by the simplicity and elegance of the design. The floors are made of teak, featuring narrow, deck-style planks divided by slivers of ebony rather than the typical black silicone. The walls are flat veneers of limed teak, and the deckheads are titanium, a dull silver metal that increases the sense of height with its semi-reflective sheen. Stainless-steel doors of the lift connecting Mariù's four decks are brushed to match this tone.
The main deck saloon features furniture designed by Armani and marketed under the Armani Casa brand. The space includes two large, angular sofas upholstered in a beige-on-beige chequerboard silk pattern, blending seamlessly with the teak floor and walls. Two rectilinear green leather easy chairs, flanked by titanium-sheathed pillars and shagreen-covered side tables, complete the seating arrangement. Venetian blinds made from limed teak slats shade the windows, adhering to the minimalist approach with no additional ornaments or pictures.
The saloon lacks a dedicated dining table or dining room. Instead, the aft part of the saloon leads to the aft deck, which is enclosed by tinted windows and fully air-conditioned. This area features a long and low teak table, edged with beige leather easy chairs and matching ottomans. The table can be manually raised to serve as a dining table if needed. The aft deck connects directly to the sea through panoramic windows and stairs leading to the stern bathing platform.
Accommodation
Mariu offers accommodation for up to 12 guests. The layout of the yacht includes an owner's suite and five guest staterooms, all designed with a minimalist aesthetic and a focus on comfort.
The owner's suite is located forward on the main deck. It features twin dressing rooms and two identical bathrooms, each equipped with a separate compartment containing a head and a bidet, as well as a discrete shower stall. The main space includes a simple steel washbasin set in a dark rosewood surround and a centrally positioned spa bath. The bedroom itself has a low-set bed on a curved oak plinth facing a rosewood cabinet that conceals a television and hi-fi system.
The guest accommodation is situated on the lower deck. There are two double staterooms, each with an en suite bathroom. Additionally, there are two twin-bedded staterooms, each with an en suite shower room. Each twin-bedded stateroom also features a third Pullman berth that folds into the teak wall, offering additional sleeping space.
An additional stateroom on the main deck is intended for personal staff, such as a bodyguard or secretary. However, its finish and fittings are identical to the other guest staterooms, providing flexibility in accommodating guests.
The crew quarters are located in the forward part of the lower deck. Despite the small size of the crew mess, the yacht is designed to be operated by a crew of 10. This design consideration aligns with the practice of many Italian yachts, where most of the crew live ashore when the yacht is in its home port.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3516B) 2,260hp engines, motor yacht Mariu is capable of reaching a top speed of 17 knots, and comfortably cruises at 15 knots. With her 120,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 46,000 nautical miles at 14 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.
Amenities
A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. An elevator makes the yacht fully-accessible, while air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Mariu also features a deck jacuzzi for cooling off.
