Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 9.17m beam and a 2.88m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 610 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in early 1990. She was delivered to her owners in June 1992.

Exterior Design

The exterior design of Tacanuya, crafted by naval architect Grant I. Robinson, is notable for its practical and efficient layout. The deck forward of the bridge has been expanded to create a functional gathering space, ensuring usability and comfort.

The upper deck is designed with a full bar and a large jacuzzi spa at the aft, providing essential amenities for leisure. The area over the boat deck is reinforced to serve as a helicopter landing pad, adding versatility. The twin 7.6m tenders are launched using a sliding crane concealed in the overhead deck, capable of traveling to either port or starboard, maximizing operational efficiency.

Wing controls extend from the wheelhouse into the port and starboard walk-around decks, giving the captain enhanced visibility for docking maneuvers. The wheelhouse also includes a separate radio room and a ship's office to starboard, with the captain’s cabin to port. These functional elements contribute to the yacht’s operational effectiveness.

The shaded boat deck features durable teak planking, and the tender chocks are removable to create a flush entertainment area. Below, the crew quarters are designed to be practical, with four double cabins, each equipped with a private head, a spacious lounge and mess area, and laundry facilities with three sets of washer/dryers.

Tacanuya’s exterior design prioritizes functionality and efficiency, leveraging Swiftships’ extensive experience in military and commercial vessel construction. The use of ship’s systems, such as a robust firefighting system and military-specification braided cable wiring, underscores the yacht’s emphasis on reliability and safety.

Interior Design

The interior design of Tacanuya, crafted by designer Susan Puleo, emphasizes spaciousness and functionality. The yacht's main saloon is notable for its expansive open space, complemented by a dining area. This area benefits from a high ceiling of more than 2.4 meters and the absence of intrusive columns or bulkheads, which creates a continuous, unobstructed visual sweep from the aft deck.

The main saloon features softly curved sofas in pale green shades, arranged in separate conversation areas around coffee tables made from materials such as quartz, turquoise, silver, and onyx. An entertainment center is housed in black lacewood cabinetry, providing both aesthetic appeal and practical utility.

Adjacent to the saloon, the dining area houses a twelve-seat table with a finish that displays depth and craftsmanship. The leather-covered cabinets have compound curves, presenting a challenge that was flawlessly executed by the upholstery makers.

The hidden galley, located to port, is equipped to handle large parties with commercial-grade facilities. It includes a Garland six-burner double-oven arrangement, an extensive walk-in refrigerator and freezer, and expansive Corian countertops. A dumb-waiter connects the galley to a pantry on the boat deck, simplifying meal service across different levels.

A powder room off the starboard side of the entrance hall features gold fixtures and a basin. The entrance hall itself showcases exquisite marble flooring and burled red Carpathian elm bulkheads, paired with a sweeping staircase leading to the upper deck.

The boat deck lounge, located two decks up, includes a full-service bar to port with seating for seven, and an oval couch with a matching overhead alcove in the ceiling. Counter-balanced sliding doors lead to the shaded boat deck, which features flawless teak planking.

Accommodation

Tacanuya comfortably accommodates up to ten guests across five well-appointed staterooms. The master stateroom, located on the main deck, spans the full beam of the yacht and includes an office and study area. The suite is tastefully decorated in shades of teal, aquamarine, and turquoise, and features a king-sized bed, a sitting area, and an entertainment center. The master suite's bathrooms are designed with luxury in mind; 'his' bathroom includes a shower with a rain dome, while 'hers' features a deep bath with a waterfall tap.

The lower deck houses four additional guest staterooms, each individually decorated and equipped with large baths, beveled mirrors, and a mix of twin and queen-sized berths. These staterooms offer a spacious and comfortable retreat, with no curtains required due to the storm covers on the ports, which have been finished in metallic paints matching the soft wall coverings.

Additionally, under the saloon is a VIP stateroom, which rivals the owner's suite on many other yachts. This stateroom features dark blue metallic automotive finishes, matching wall fabrics, a mirrored ceiling, and an expansive bathroom with a blue marble floor and chrome and gold fixtures. The VIP stateroom can also be converted into a fully fitted gymnasium if desired.

She is also capable of carrying up to 12 crew onboard. Crew accommodations are located forward and include four large double cabins, each with a private head, a spacious crew lounge and mess area, and ample laundry facilities with three sets of washer/dryers.
