Design & Construction

Designed around a semi-displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 8.5m beam and a 2.7m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 445 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in mid 1996. She was delivered to her owners in September 1999.

Exterior Design

The exterior design of the Sierra 2 is functional and straightforward. It features a raked bow, which contributes to its efficient cutting through water, enhancing both speed and stability. The deck is constructed from teak, known for its durability and resistance to harsh marine conditions.

The hull is painted dark green, offering a strong contrast to the white superstructure. This color scheme provides a clean and crisp appearance. The boot top is red, adding a distinct line that separates the hull from the area below the waterline, which is painted black. This color combination is not only visually striking but also practical for maintenance and visibility.

With only one tender, a 5.4m Boston Whaler Jet, stored on the upper deck aft, the deck space is ample for entertaining. The sun deck offers perimeter seating fore and aft, a central D-shaped bar beneath the mast's support arch, and a multi-positional sunbed. The upper deck aft provides a cozy dining space for smaller groups, while the main deck aft offers alfresco seating for 14 around a large oval table, sheltered by an unsupported 10.6m deck above.

Access to the yacht is via Mediterranean-style hydraulic passerelles on the transom and a hydraulically operated accommodation ladder on the starboard side. For those arriving by boat, the starboard side ladder or the stern bathing platform with its sweeping staircase to the aft deck offers convenient boarding options.

Interior Design

The interior design of Sierra 2 is a blend of classic Oriental and Art Deco influences. The saloon features rich makore woods and jade fabrics, creating a space that balances comfort and sophistication. Large, comfortable armchairs and a sofa surround a glass-topped table on the port side, facing a bar. This room is designed to accommodate both large gatherings and quieter moments.

Fine interior joinery by Stultz Manufacturing ensures attention to detail, such as handmade air-conditioning diffusers set within step-up ceiling moldings. The saloon is separated from the dining area by a central island that provides a degree of privacy while maintaining an open feel. The 10-seater dining table, illuminated by a custom-made crystal chandelier, appears to be crafted from marble but is actually goatskin inlaid with gold accents. The dining area also houses commissioned bone china for family and fundraising events.

The galley, located between the dining room and VIP suite on the port side, is outfitted with stainless steel equipment and appliances surrounding a work and storage island. A breakfast nook adjacent to the galley serves as a favorite spot for the owners to relax and dine. The galley is a focal point of activity, especially since one of the owners is an accomplished chef.

The sky lounge, designed for casual relaxation, includes natural leather reclining couches in plantation-house style and large wooden shutters. The entertainment center features a state-of-the-art panoramic flat-screened television, hi-fi, VCR, and surround-sound system, cleverly concealed behind cabinet doors. The television screen itself opens to reveal a comprehensive video library. Additionally, exercise equipment stored in the lounge’s cupboards can transform the room into a temporary health club.

The pilothouse offers a blend of functionality and comfort, featuring a leather-covered bench seat and pilot chairs, along with a Brazilian cherrywood floor. The navigation array is located on the port side of the console, while the communications center is on the starboard side. Retractable wing stations outside the bridge doors include monitors that allow the captain to view the yacht’s perimeter when docking.

Accommodation

Sierra 2 is designed to host a total of 12 guests in five staterooms. Located amidships on the lower deck, the master stateroom is a key feature of Sierra 2. The office is equipped with telephones, a fax machine, a television, VCR, and computer, all integrated with the yacht's satellite communications array. The VIP stateroom includes a king-sized bed and versatile sitting room that can be converted into additional sleeping space.

Two twin-bedded guest cabins are also located amidships on the lower deck. Each cabin provides ample storage and comfortable sleeping arrangements, ensuring a restful experience for all guests. The fifth stateroom is uniquely positioned on the upper deck between the bridge and sky lounge, furnished with a queen-sized bed and offering exceptional views.
