Design & Construction

Designed around an aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 12.53m beam and a 5.05m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 837 GT (Gross Tonnes).

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in February 2011 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months.

Exterior Design

Vertigo's near-vertical bow, clean sweeping deck line, and short transom contribute to its overall streamlined appearance. Vertigo's striking silver-painted superstructure appears to hover over the black hull. This visual effect is achieved through the careful shaping of the superstructure to create the illusion of levitation. Additionally, the superstructure's arc creates a sculpted dome between the two masts, which is balanced by the tapered flybridge that extends aft.

In terms of layout, Vertigo breaks from tradition with the main lazarette positioned centrally, allowing for more centralized access from the tender. This design choice also serves practical purposes, enhancing the yacht's overall balance and accessibility. The aft lazarette houses a large 8m tender, while the foredeck includes two lockers for two 6m tenders, all of which are stored out of sight to avoid clutter.

The functional aspects of Vertigo's design extend to its mooring equipment. Submarine anchors, mooring equipment, and fairleads are concealed to preserve the yacht's clean lines. Additionally, the captive winches—16 in total—are designed to be unobtrusive, with their massive size and capability discreetly integrated into the yacht's structure.

The superstructure's windows play an integral role in the yacht's design, featuring precise rounded sections that enhance its visual impact. Handrails, roof angles, and the hard top's fine supports also display a high level of craftsmanship.

For outdoor relaxation and entertainment, Vertigo offers well-appointed areas such as the cockpit and flying bridge. The aft cockpit boasts a large hard-top with an integrated louvre system and sliding windows, providing adaptable protection from the elements. The flybridge, equipped with twin helm stations, offers additional seating, a central table, and chairs, all of which can be shielded by foldaway bimini covers and a large dodger. A glass windshield can be raised to reduce wind for guests enjoying the flybridge amenities.

The attention to detail continues with the incorporation of a spa pool concealed within sun-beds at the rear of the cockpit. A BBQ, fridge, icemaker, and sink augment the entertainment space more than 6 meters above the waterline, ensuring guests have everything they need for an enjoyable experience onboard.

Vertigo's design is not only about aesthetics but also about sailing performance and safety. Alloy Yachts has implemented sail handling systems, remote sailing controls, and a hydraulic steering feedback system that contribute to the yacht's responsive sailing capabilities.

Vertigo's design and technology coalesce to create an environment that is both sophisticated and practical, reflecting the needs and expectations of those who value precision and efficiency.

Interior Design

White lacquered surfaces set the foundational tone of the interior, complemented by the warmth of tinted walnut and the depth of black sandblasted woods. Brushed oak and leather are interspersed throughout the living spaces, alongside details of stainless steel, to create a cohesive design narrative that emphasizes a sporty yet chic aesthetic.

Custom-designed furniture is tailored to fit the yacht's color palette and design ethos, ensuring comfort without compromising the yacht's streamlined style. The interior layout is thoughtfully structured to enhance the sense of space and continuity. Glass panels and doors feature liquid crystal displays, offering the versatility to switch from transparent to opaque.

The main saloon serves as a central gathering area, equipped with divans, coffee tables, settees, and a multimedia system. It is a versatile space for both relaxation and entertainment, enhanced by natural light and designed to foster social interaction. A bar and dining area are integrated into the saloon, providing a congenial setting for hosting guests.

In terms of technology, Vertigo is equipped with high-definition entertainment and information systems, including a custom Google Earth interface. This innovative feature allows occupants to follow the yacht's exact location in real-time, displayed on screens in each cabin. The communications systems onboard are robust, including a global maritime distress and safety system (GMDSS) and high-speed data connectivity. Dual stabilized satellite platforms ensure consistent online access, while integrated navigation systems feature redundant components to maintain full operational capability.

Accommodation

Vertigo's accommodations provide an exceptional level of comfort and privacy for up to 12 guests, housed within a modern and elegantly designed interior. The guest quarters are comprised of six staterooms.

At the heart of Vertigo's guest accommodations lies the expansive owner's suite, a sanctuary of peace and refinement. This full-beam stateroom is situated aft and features twin bathrooms, offering the yacht's owner an unparalleled level of luxury and personal space. The suite's direct access to the lazarette and swim platform further enhances the seclusion and convenience for the owner.

Vertigo also takes into account the well-being and accommodation of her crew, providing cabins for 11 crew members. These quarters ensure that the crew can maintain the highest level of service while also enjoying their own dedicated space for rest and privacy.

Performance & Capabilities

With a modern hull design, Vertigo is a ketch that offers remarkable sailing capabilities, capable of exceeding speeds of 20 knots in suitable wind conditions. The yacht's propulsion is supported by twin 1450 hp Caterpillar engines, allowing for a top speed of 18 knots. When cruising, Vertigo can achieve a consistent speed of 13 knots, with the efficiency to cover a range of over 4,000 nautical miles.

The sail package of Vertigo, supplied by North Sails New Zealand, is groundbreaking in its design, particularly noted for the enlarged roach on the main and mizzen sails. This advanced approach to sail design necessitated the creation of a new mainsail track and batten car system, tailored by mast and rigging experts Southern Spars. The yacht also incorporates Southern Spars’ patented Southern Furl Boom in-boom furling systems, enhancing the ease and efficiency of sail handling.

Vertigo's build and mechanical design are focused on performance and creating a discreet and unobtrusive environment for operational equipment. This includes the integration of 16 captive winches and additional mooring and anchoring equipment, all carefully concealed to maintain the yacht's sleek aesthetic.

In terms of navigation and safety, Vertigo is equipped with advanced systems, including a comprehensive suite of communications technology to guarantee connectivity and safety at all times. The yacht's navigational capabilities are supported by duplicated heading reference and autopilot systems, ensuring redundancy and reliability when steering from the primary bridge or secondary flybridge.

Amenities

A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Vertigo also features deck jacuzzi which provides excellent views.
