139m superyacht SOLARIS builder Lloyd Werft is sold

The German shipyard filed for bankruptcy at the start of the year and a deal has been concluded to sell it to a local consortium.

Lloyd Werft, the builder of the 139m (456ft) superyacht SOLARIS, has been sold it has been announced.

The giant megayacht was the second-largest delivery of 2021, behind Lurssen’s 141.6m (465ft) superyacht NORD. However, the yard filed for bankruptcy in January this year, due to financial issues surrounding its parent company the Genting Group.

Over the weekend it was revealed that a deal had been inked and that a local consortium of the Rönner Group and the Zech Group will acquire and operating the yard. Reports suggest that initially, insolvency administrators favored a bid from the United Arab Emirates yacht company Al Seer Marine, but late last week the two German companies joined forces to make the winning offer.

The new consortium combines two family-owned businesses, the Ronner Group has a background in shipyard and steel, whilst the Zech Group focuses on building and real estate. The value of the deal was not disclosed, but German media is reporting that the final bid was between €20million and €30 million for the yard and its real estate.

A briefing for the shipyard’s workforce of around 230 people was held on Monday with the insolvency administrator and the new owners.
